PIB - Lake Erie

I was talking with the guys at Lakefront. They said you were thinking about going back there. At point of interest I found out about the water in the marina. It is full of sediment. My AC unit kept clocking up and needed to be cleaned out monthly with fresh water. And the seawater rubber impellers for the motors both went out when docked there. Was told by the repair people there they don't last any more than couple of years. Once again I found out after words due to the sediment in the marina. I am at Basshaven and the boaters there tell me the seawater impellers last over five years. And this is my second year there have not cleaned the AC water strainer yet.

No I am not going back to Lakefront…. I have only seen Chris and Fred this year ….I told them both I wasn’t coming back. I had lunch with Jim from the yacht club the other day he tried to get me to come back….but told him no too. I had a bad experience with Lee so no chance of returning. I like this side of Marblehead …nice change

Made it up this past Thursday.

Docked at The Keys. Such a pretty place.

Lunch at Frosty’s Pizza didn’t disappoint.

The lake was gorgeous for the ride over from Huron and even calmer on the way back.

First long run in the S23 and she did great. Although fighting vapor lock after anchor or docking.

Lake has been so flat this week…doesn’t get better than that.

Unfortunately we had to leave and head back south today. Always stinks having to head out on a glassy day! Hopefully we can make it up a few more times before seasons end.

Ive decided I’m either gonna have to get a bigger boat or look into camper canvas so threats of rain don’t have to keep us on the trailer.

My kids are adventurous….but I think they may still be a little young for caught in a Lake Erie rain storm adventurous without some shelter!

You want my opinion? Of course you don’t, but here it is anyway. Camper canvas is going to be expensive, especially cause you’re not replacing existing, you need a whole frame. Forget it. Enjoy what you have. When you reach the point of wanting CC, go bigger with galley, head, shower. And good chance that bigger boat will already have CC. In meantime, carry a blue tarp and throw it over the kids when it rains. Tell them they are roughing it.

That’s my thinking too. I have a “universal” Bimini top that covers the whole middle of the boat. Figured a bow cover and see if there’s a way to add some side curtains would be a good compromise for now.

We had just a great weekend this weekend during a rendezvous. 30 people. PIB. Shrimp and little necks. One night ….. ribs chicken and corn the next. Just an incredible effort by everyone organizing. Appetizers, desserts over the top. It doesn’t get better then this boating…. Pics don’t do it justice ….. if you’re lucky enough to boat and enjoy company like this it doesn’t get better then this ….. cheers

The weather has been amazing. We were at PIB this past Thursday through Saturday. Going back on Friday thru Sunday with the 400, we'll be at B-Dock if anyone wants to stop by for a drink or two.

Hitting Kelleys Island next weekend, weather permitting and then back to PIB the following weekend for Halloween at PIB.

Then it'll be time to the to pull the Whaler and wait for the call to pull the 400 the 1st week in November
