Potential EIM problem

I have a 2000 240SD and my electrical keypad (peanut) controls will not work. I replaced it with a new one and got the same results, nothing. So now it seems the EIM may be bad. We have tested the power input, and there is power to the keypad, just nothing will work on either, the old and new one. We also checked the control ground buss for corrosion and it's in good shape. My question, is there a way to have the EIM checked to see if this is the problem, without taking it to the service center? Or any other possible reasons the keypad is not working> TIA

Personally, I would hard wire everything to panel switches. The only other thing to do if you have verified 12v power to the unit is to check all the system grounds and remove the main plug to the unit and spray a cleaner on the contacts and retest.
