i wanted to think of a way to protect the trailer wiring plug from the elements while it was not in use....I installed a dummy socket on the tongue of the trailer....when the trailer is not in use I insert the wiring plug into the dummy socket....this keeps water, dirt, and bugs out of the plug end....

thought I would share this if anyone else is having trouble keeping the plug clean between uses...

Another idea is to install the plug on the trailer. Create a double plug cable. Actually you buy all this stuff premade

We did this at the hire company I was with, as the maintainance on trailer wiring was a nightmare

Cliff, That is a good idea, I think I have a spare receptacle, if I can find it I'm going to do the same, as I now shove it into the surge brake mount to keep it out of the elements. By the way Great name, mine also.

if you don't find the spare receptacle i bought this one at Advance Auto Parts for $15........the kit included the socket, mounting bracket and bolts/nuts to secure the socket to the bracket.....you have to supply the bolts/nuts to secure the bracket to the trailer.....
