Pump losing prime

I replaced the pump in my shower sump box a few weeks ago. Now the box fills with water, the pump turns on, but it doesn't move any water. I can move the float with my hand, turning the pump off, and then restart the pump, and it pumps the box down fine. What the heck? Any idea why it won't move water at first but then will after I shut it off and back on? Thanks.

What pump did you use? The Rule pumps self prime and should pickup water without problem. If you hear the pump running it should not be any different than if you move the float switch. Maybe check for a possible blockage in the outbound hose.

Blockage in discharge line or bad pump

No blockage in the line, and the pump is new and good (Rule). Again, it works fine *after I restart it*. It baffles me!

Is this a automatic pump or standard?
