This has been discussed in a few different threads lately so I logged my fuel burn, load % and EGT's this past weekend.

I know some disagree but from personal experience, these EGT temps would be 50 F higher in the heat of summer. Air temp was around 60 with water temps at 70 yesterday.

The boat was lightly loaded with 5 people, 1/4 tank of fuel and water. Data is average between both engines.

Props are 28 x 31 with #2 cup

2000 18.7 GPH 61% LOAD 956 F

1900 17.2 GPH 59% LOAD 994 F

1800 14.9 GPH 52% LOAD 1020 F

1700 13.7 GPH 50% LOAD 1044 F

1600 11.0 GPH 43% LOAD 1040 F

1500 9.30 GPH 42% LOAD 1033 F

interesting data. Is that pre-turbo EGT or after?

Amazing numbers - At 1900 I'm at 67% load at 17.0 GHP and have 28 X 31.0. I wish I knew the EGT's.

I am taking something different from this. Last time I had my props done they were set back to 28x33. I today noticed in my original survey someone had lightly stamped 31.5 on it. Since I had my props tuned I don't reach WOT. I wonder if I need some pitch removed down to 31.5 as the Cummings set up is running.

I'm pretty sure the CAT is a bit different than the QSM11 (electronic) as the fuel burn rate number relative to RPM is what we set up prop-ing the Cummins engine for. Regardless, with my 3116TA Cats (mechanical) it was essential to pitch the propellers to achieve the engine's high idle. I'm sure your 3196 is the same. @fwebster would have that answer...

Agree the Cat can be different, but the story of the change stamp on the prop with my default reset seems to have changed performance. I get the honor of pulling the boat for 5 year survey so I will pull props and have them remove some pitch and see what my numbers look like.

@ttmott - what is your WOT RPM? I've never been able to reach more than 2330 which hasn't changed much with the pitch and multiple cup removals I've done.

Edit: My props are also 28 x 31 not 31.5 (typo)

Clean bottom and clean running gear fully loaded with fuel and water - 2360. I'm sure it's on the governor limit.
You may need to have the governors reset which is an adjustment in the fuel pump; what it your high idle?

I've honestly never checked it on this boat. Something I should do before winterizing.

Thought I've heard that the computer limited them to 2360.
The computer may also but the fuel pump will cut off fuel at the set point. It's a spring tension adjustment against the fly-weights in the fuel pump.

Currently looking at a 2012 540 Sundancer with QSM11 and pods. Sea Trial showed the boat is over propped of course. I have not seen anyone tackle the prop issue on a pod boat with Zeus Pod double props. Any suggestions?

I’d run like hell from any Zeus Pods no matter what engine they connected to on based on neighbor’s problems in my opinion.
