Hi guys, down at boat trying to figure this stuff out. Have a 05,280 twin 4.3 alphas. Getting an alarm for low water press, not sure if its impeller or sensor or clog. Start boat both smart craft gauges read about 25 , let idle for a minute both drop to about 10 then starboard keeps falling to 0. But boat doesn't over heat stays between 150 to160. Thermostat has 3 hoses a blue drain plug and looks like a 3/8 tapping on top with a plug in it. Question is If I take out plug and put a water pressure gauge in it will I get a reading that I can go by. Also noticed that my water distribution valve is striped blue handle on top just keeps spinning, not really sure if that plays into it. Any help is appreciated , thanks again

I just helped a friend change his "Smartcraft" water pressure sensor.
The parts counter said its one of his most replaced items and he had tons of them in stock.
The newer ones claim to be better than the older ones....something about a better ground.
Part was around $120 and simple to change, almost looks like a spark plug.

If your comfortable with a wrench....
You could swap one from the other motor and see if the problem follows...I think the sensor is in the power steering cooler.
Wont cost anything to trouble shoot this way, except your effort or pay a tech around $250-300 to read the fault code and swap the part.

Good luck,

Mark.
