Indeed. You watch, the minute Trump picks a nominee, and the Democrats pull another "Ballsey Ford", Romney will say he can't vote unless the truth is revealed.
It’s so obvious. I’m guessing McConnell is prepared for that.

Ya, maybe they can bail Avenatti out of jail. I'm sure he could come up with witnesses to whatever claims are made against the nominee. Speaking of Avenatti....how things have changed, wasn't long ago the MSM chicks were so excited by him they were stuck to their chairs. He was even the headliner at some Dem events. He was the man to stand up to Trump in 2020. What a joke the Dems are...o_O:rolleyes::eek::p

Wasn’t Avenatti let out of jail because of Covid.... dems still love him

I didn’t care for her one bit. IMO she was the poster child for politicizing the judiciary. She was a radical liberal who ruled based solely on her views, not the constitution.

Good riddance. Now let’s get on with the polar opposite as her replacement.

Who was it that said “...elections have consequences...”:p

Ya, he's under house arrest at some friends place in CA. I guess they didn't want him to catch the virus in jail and croak before they sentence him for the Nike case and then convict/sentence him in a couple more pending cases. Talk about 15min of fame, he's an awesome example.

I've been thinking about that. You may very well be correct. No doubt that Romney hates Trump, but this isn't a Trump issue. This is all about the balance of the Supreme Court for possibly decades to come. Utah is a very conservative state. If Romney blocks a conservative nominee to be voted on, his senate career might very well be over. I think he might have to swallow hard and go along with Mitch and Co.

Most do not know just how bad that Romney screwed the republican party in his choice of election state. He could have chose Massachusetts, (he was former governor there) and maybe get republicans a great steal, or Michigan (where his father was from and held elective office) and likely could have won a seat away from the dems, but nooooo, he had to turn a full on conservative Utah seat into wishy-washy RINOville...

Just a broad question. Is Trump not "betting the farm" against a thought that moderate Republicans' and perhaps a lot of them, might not want Roe v. Wade overturned? Abortion is a major issue for the religious right, but I am not sure he will gain votes of the majority of women in the US if he plays the abortion card as a reason to appoint a highly religious judge?

Roe v. Wade isn't the only issue. Besides, just because something has been adjudicated doesn't mean it's automatically law. Congress has yet to pass a law that States you have a right to an abortion, which is why each states laws differ on the issue.

There is no evidence that R v W will be overturned. People keep harping on that, but chances are close to zero. Besides, even if it is, then it just goes back to the states. BFD.

Maybe. And there already is a conservative majority in the SCOTUS already. However if that is not his intention, Trump might want to address that over the next month or so.

As a political issue it is not as binary as it sounds, and certainly not a draconian as the left makes it sound. I have read persuasive books that the court decision actually hurt the democrats by making them defend the procedure until birth and helped the republicans by allowing them to just ask for moderate restrictions and fund raise off of it.

If the R v W were overturned it would not end the procedure in the country, merely pass the decision to 50 legislatures to hammer out the rules in each state, as Golfman25 stated. That would be from a total ban to total access, and the people could decide what worked for them, in their states, across the country.

The vast majority of the US citizens want abortion to be legal, safe, and rare. ( A HRC slogan once upon a time) and not funded by tax dollars

It does not matter what Trump and McConnell do now at all. The democrats already have their plan in place if they win the trifecta of presidency, house and senate.

End the filibuster in the senate.

Add 2-4 SCOTUS justices.

Add significantly to the federal court system.

Try and get DC and Puerto Rico in as states. (4 more senate seats)

The dems are still miffed the great one was not so great and Trump got to fill dozens, if not hundreds of seats in the judiciary that could have been filled by Obama. They are pizzed that cocaine Mitch and Trump have been so proficient at approving judges to fill vacancies. Bet you did not know that most days the house was in knots over impeachment, the senate was busy approving judges.

I would suggest to McConnell and Trump, if they win, to just do that list minus the new states, and get on with it.

Ok. I understand. I know its a highly sensitive issue. We had the same issue arise in our last Canadian federal election. Our Conservative Leader was known to be anti-abortion in his earlier career. The Liberals played that during the election and despite the Conservatives coming out and saying they were not going to re-open that issue, it was one of the nails in the coffin of the Conservatives. Canada does not have a huge religious right like the US, so it was unfortunate that the leader had an old view that did not resonate with the swing voters.

I will always vote Conservative, and it has absolutely nothing to do with religious views. The separation of church and state is something I adamantly believe is fundamental to peace. Many wars and most terrorism is based on religious differences being engrained in governments or the terrorists they sponsor.

The Senate ‘publicans and Trump need the replacement on SCOTUS because they know the election results will be contested by the Libs.

I can see a nasty legal battle post election with civil unrest like we’ve never seen, all orchestrated and funded.

I will admit I’m enjoying watching Pelosi twitch uncontrollably when she’s at the microphone.
