I thought boat prices were going crazy, until I started looking at homes for sale in Florida !!
Holy $$$$

selling houses for thousands of dollars over asking price...and multiple offers

Its everywhere and it is also what is driving building materials prices skyrocketing. Our cross street neighbour just sold their place for $2.75M in one day, over ask. Thats a 3,500sq ft house with a pool. Two years ago maybe $1.5M max based on sales in our area. That got me pretty excited that we could tear down and rebuild our place up north and buy a place in Florida with the sale proceeds of our place. Then we started looking into cost to build up north. Prices are skyrocketing. We probably will still do it, but unless things stabilize it will cost about 50% more than a year ago to build. Its not just building materials. Good builders are sold out too so have pricing leverage. And my browsing Florida gulf coast on Zillow has turned depressing.

Space coast is still reasonable I would consider it a good buy

This is what happens when the government prints trillions of dollars.

Around 30% of all dollars in existence have been printed in the last couple of years..,

At my stage in life I would have been much better off if the US did nothing and let the economy tank (like 2008 financial crisis when the CAD $ was over par and US real estate became a bargain.) My sister and BIL bought in Naples in 2009 at the perfect time - strong CAD$ and low prices.

I have a dock neighbor that builds custom homes in the $500k-$3mil range. Cannot find sheathing/decking anywhere. Went to HD and Lowes and made arrangements to purchase two entire tractor/trailer loads in order to keep his people moving. Prices all over the board. Canadian OSB at one time as low as $5.99/sheet now is between$25-45.

We have a place near Naples. There is not a single home available in our community. That has not happened since the community was started in 2006. And the ask price is 20% higher than a year ago.
Close friend just bought a lot on Marco Island. He received an offer for $100k over what he paid 1 week after he closed.
Crazy on the gulf side.

We all would have, as well as let GM and Dodge claim bankruptcy. Instead we continually kick-the-can down the road. Some kick harder than others.

Depressing? Try looking for a 20 year old 390-420 with diesels. Now those prices are truly depressing!!

Our house in Fla is just about done and the builder told us the price now to build that house since Nov 2020 is $100,000 more holy,,, anyone want to buy ours? Never been lived in…they are all sold out.

We just sold one of our properties in Cape Coral it was on the market for 8 hours.

I worked in Florida between 1975 and 2003. Maybe once or twice a month as a consultant. Nice place, but the weather for me was too hot in the Summer and too damp in the winter.

We just came back from a Florida vacation. I am still shell-shocked at the inability to park and the huge traffic jams. It took at least 2 days to get a restaurant reservation.

Even if the real estate prices were half, it would still be too high for me.

We finished building a new home in January. I saw my builder the other day, his price per sq ft has increase $50. He also adds a rider that if price increase over current price at time of contract that the buyer carries the price increase. So yeah prices are crazy, but also try getting anything. The backlog is 4-6 months for some material and fixtures.

Wish I bought properties back in 08, then I could have a home and a boat lift with Fwebsters boat in it

I guess it's all relative. My mom passed in September & my wife & I had bought her a condo in a 55 & over community on Long Island 11 years ago. At the time it had minor improvements done like painted kitchen cabinets with brand new lower end appliances, new flooring & paint throughout. I just finished a complete gut & redo of everything and am listing it for almost 2 1/2 times what we paid! And, they're selling in that range! It's a 1500 unit community & there are only about three 2 BR, 2 BA units with a garage available.
