So the shop in Stuart, Florida ripped me off. My fault 100% for not checking the "new carburetor" they installed...was a Napa special automotive Rochester quadrajet. Now I have to purchase a marine Rochester quad. I have the part number but many sellers are ebay sellers.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thank you!

+1 to SilentJ20, make the shop fix it or raise a big stink about it. If they are a true marine facility that is unacceptable.

So I found a place in FLA that seemed pretty reasonable. But the name escapes me, but you’ll find it the same way I did with Google. They even had the engine application/and right carb for it. In our case 502’s. I wanna say they were like 300 bucks or so a pop. Might be Flying Fish Carburetor or Marine carburetors.com

That is one marina that you should NEVER go back to. The difference is a bad running engine vs. a potential Big Boom. Just google it - it's not rocket science.

Have a true marina do the job right, then take the parts back to the first one and ask for a full refund. Have your lawyer write them a letter.

What is different between a marine carb vs auto carb?
The vent tube for the bowl of a marine carburetor directs the fuel back into the carburetor in the event of a malfunction. An automotive carburetor vents the fuel out of the carburetor which creates an explosion hazard. At least thats my understanding.

^^ this above. You can see it when you pull it apart. It shoots gas upwards towards flame arrestor that goes on top of carb. It’s a freaking fume machine.

Not to mention the carb is not painted, the linkages are not brass nor plated so they rust out in 6 months.

Lastly they cost a lot less than marine carb.

I found a company that answered the phone and I got to speak to two people about manifold choke vs electric. And we chatted about new vs reman.

I learned a lot from these two guys and for that they earned my business.

Turns out Rochester doesn’t make my carb anymore and their new one is a copy but exactly the same as a remanufactured.

Their price on an original Rochester 10780561 quadrajet is $260 excluding core. $100 cheaper than everyone else.

Almost paid for new OE fuel pump.

That auto carb can cause damage to other components and may have damaged fuel pump.

Jason from Full Throttle Marine (mobile) recommended new pump, carb, fuel filter. He’s going to dial it up and go on water test w me.

I now have a guy. Thank god!

Yep. When my floats got stuck on my 66 Mustang, the bowls overfilled and dumped fuel onto the engine and onto the ground. If that were a boat you'd fill your engine room/bilge with fresh gas. Recipe for baaaad things. On a Marine carb, the vent directs into the venturi of the carb, so the extra fuel gets dumped into the intake. The engine runs like crap or floods, but at least you're not at risk of exploding. Well, no more than usual anyways.
