    Hello,

I just purchased a 2004 Sea Ray 220 Select with 350 Mag Alpha One Gen 2. I'm bringing the boat down to Guatemala where getting parts is difficult, so I would like to quickly purchase a spare prop now. My primary objective is fuel efficiency, and secondary objective is getting out of the hole for water sports. I'm not concerned with top speed.

Do you have prop you recommend I purchase?

    Thank you

Generally speaking, your best all around prop is going to the same SS Vengeance that is on there now (or at least would have been in 2004). I'm going to guess that it's a 19" or 21", but go to Sea Ray's website and look at the prop charts in the owner's section. It will show you what the original was - you can probably find it online or from any Mercruiser dealer (or Sea Ray dealer).

Hello, I'm not sure which prop direction I'm supposed to get. The parts manual says
    350 MAG MPI (300PHP) ALPHA 1, 169672 PROP, 14"X 19" VENGEANCE RH

However, the engine sticker says it is LH. I included a photo of the engine sticker and back of the boat so you can see the prop. Which direction of prop do I have? Next, should I get a new hub kit at the same time?

    Thank you!

I think this video helped me determine that I have a RH prop.
I guess the Alpha 1 reverses the prop direction from the engine.

One more question. Is the prop I have stainless steel or aluminum? I'm thinking stainless steel since it looks like all Vengeance props I find online are stainless, but I can't tell from looking at my prop. Thank you

One more question. Can you please help me determine the hub kit I need? The boat propeller warehouse says this about the hub kit:

Mercury MerCruiser Alpha & Bravo One
    • For all engines with an Alpha or Bravo One drive
    • Use Hub Kit #835257K1 for all applications less that 300HP
    • Use Hub kit #835258K2 for all application over 300HP with 1.0" prop shaft
    • Use Hub Kit #840389K06 for all 1.25" prop shaft applications
My engine is 300 HP, and I don't know how to tell what my prop shaft length is.

    Thank you

Even though boat propeller description made it a little confusing, I think I need this hub kit: https://www.boatpropellerwarehouse.com/product/30223/flo-torq-ii-hub-kit-mercury-835257k1

Prop is RH, engine is LH. They're talking shaft diameter not length.

If you are going anywhere that parts are hard to come by I would consider staying with an aluminum prop. The performance you will see if any with a SS prop is not worth the cost or the wear and tear of the extra weight the SS. prop puts on your outdrive let alone if you do hit something the damage they can cause to your outdrive. Considering your boat's Horsepower and weight a aluminum prop is plenty capable to do the job.

To the best of my knowledge, all 350s/5.7Ls are LH rotation, and the only time I've ever seen a LH prop is on a twin-engine rig. The counter-rotation is handled by the outdrives, and are usually labeled as such. As others have mentioned, that's a RH prop (as expected).

Yes, you are correct - that prop is SS and will offer you the best all around performance and will provide a noticeable performance increase over an aluminum prop - but an aluminum prop will be less expensive. You don't "need" a new hub kit - but as noted above, if parts are hard to find where you are going or could take a while to get, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get a spare kit. I'm not 100% positive, but I think it comes with a kit - or at least I believe so if you're getting the "real thing" from your local Merc shop. It's possible that some online places offer that, too - but online places can be sketchy and sometimes unreliable - especially if there's a problem after the sale. They could be fine - but it's best to know for sure.

It isn't easy to get parts down in Guatemala, but I will be coming down to the states enough that I can get a new prop if needed. I'm going to stick with the SS because I feel more comfortable going with the prop that came with the boat. Thank you.

Hello, the props don't come with the hub kit on the 3 main sites that I checked. I'm going to get the new hub as a spare. Thank you.
