Hi guys,

I was able to finally use my recent acquired Sundeck 200 2006 and last week I had a good time to test everything.

Something I found odd and I don’t know if is some sort of safety protection or if the boat have a problem. If I am at 1000 RPM or less the hydraulic/tilt works perfectly fine but if I am speeding 1k RPM or more no matter if I press up or down it doesn’t move. Is that a safety feature to prevent the hydraulic to do a lot of force while is speeding? I don’t know if I being doing it wrong in the past years with my previous boats but I always have the tilt completely down until get the boat to plane, while is on plane then I raise it to half and that gives me excellent performance and top speed but now is like I have to pick before start driving, meaning that after get the boat to plane I cannot make tilt adjustments. I appreciate any advice

Bump for some help!

No, that is not right, trim should work at any speed. Check the trim fluid, if it is low or has water in it from a leaking seal it could cause the trim to not work properly and be weaker. If not that, then could be the trim limit switch - maybe somehow shorting at speed - The wires tend to crack and water leaks into switch. It's the "puck" on the Port side of outdrive.

Thanks BillK2632,

The fluid is fine, so I will check the limit switch and the cables, I just have to find them.

Does your trailer button work above 1000 rpm?

mine didn't came with the external button, it only has the buttons in the throttle stick. Is on my bucket list to add the external one.

^^Good point, this will bypass the limit switch. If it works you have a bad limit switch.

Hi folks,

I'm reviving this thread because I finally installed the external trim switch. ordered the right one for the engine (the same someone posted in the picture) but the plug in mine is a flat plug while the kit came with a rounded plug, ended up splicing the cables, not too hard on my Sundeck 200. It works fine BUT I still have the same issue, the trim doesn't work after I pass 5-10 miles even with the new external trim switch that should bypass the limit switch. Had my wife go a speed and I pressed the external button and nothing. So, looks like is not the trim limit switch nor a loosen cable, what else can be? During the external trim installation I've found the area under the pump oily, so it looks like the pump have a tiny leak, go to be very tiny where since I got the boat (summer last year) I keep monitoring the level and has not gone down at least once. But, it could be a bad pump where when have pressure doesn't work?

2 odd things for me:

1- why the pump plug was not the same as the one that came with the kit? maybe was replaced by previous owner? kind of doubt it because it looks very clean like from factory, cables tied and everything like new, so if someone replace it the definitely did like a factory job, but I doubt it. I called Sea Ray the other day for something else and the guy told me that by the serial number 2006 is the year the engine was registered, doesn't mean the year was built, so is an MPI 5.0 from the 2004-2006 range, so, that could be why the plug is different?

2- When I'm at low speed like in a no wake zone if all the trim is down and I accidentally press the down button additional than make the particular noise I can hear that the RPM kind of slow a little bit, like the bump is making so much force that takes some RPM from the engine, not a whole lot, just a change in RPM noise that I can notice, maybe thats normal?

anyways I dont know what else to check, I was thinking to play contour games again and get to the pump and tight up any screw just because of the leak, maybe replace the pump will be good?

My gasket split at the hose to pump connection on the down cylinder. It couldn't generate/maintain enough pressure to keep the leg down when at speed, worked fine at low speeds. When it started out, I couldn't see a leak. The gasket was squished enough so that the fluid would not leak out the crack when on land.

If your gaskets/hoses are good, the trim pump does have pressure relief valves that recirculate the oil if you are fully extended/retracted and still pushing the button. Perhaps one of these valves is set too low so you can't make enough pressure to move the leg while underway.

As for the round versus flat, there are two types of connectors. If I remember correctly flat was earlier than round, my 2003 had a round connector. The previous owner may have replaced the trim pump with a used one, the new ones are a little pricey. If you get a new pump you will have to fish that round connector out of the trash.

Thanks for the advice. Hah, I saved the plug and made the cut with enough cable just in case I had to use it one day, good thinking.
