Rules for thee, not for me

She convinces the council to dole out “aid” to all sorts of people that have made poor life choices but are still able to vote.

I agree completely. There should be no special laws or immunity for any member of government. As soon as members of government are able to bypass the laws of the land, its a dangerous situation. But its been going on for years. And like icebergs, you only see the visible 10%. 90% is going on below the surface. So when you see 10%, you better vote that crap out of office. But the problem is there is a whole team and network that are sucking on that teat that turn a blind eye to when it advances their interests. That is why setting laws and enforcing laws need to be separated. They are by design in most places, but the public needs to vote vigilantly to make sure it stays that way.

One of my pet peeves is seeing LEOs ripping thru traffic at well above posted limits without their lights on indicating they are responding to a situation. I think that the LEOs are obligated to set the highest example of obedience to all traffic rules, laws and limits.
The other day I was on the free way and there was some sort of VIP funeral procession with MC cop escort doing 75 mph in a 65 zone. Of course all the other traffic was doing 75 + anyway as every one does because there are no cops out there enforcing the 65 limit but the optics just suck especially for young drivers that are being trained to ignore the most basic of laws. If there is not going to be enforcement how about we save the money on signs and just have a general Safe for conditions speed limits policy?

I have a good friend who was a cop. Shortly after he and his friends got out of the Academy, they all were assigned to 3rd shift in a larger city. With very few cars are the road in those early hours, they routinely would run red lights (after first stopping or slowing almost to a stop) because they felt it was a waste to sit there at a light and thought they were doing a "favor" to the taxpayers not wasting that time.

One day the Chief was coming back from some event and was running late and observed some of these actions. The next day the whole shift got their a**es chewed out and they put a stop to that practice.

Not all situations require you to run lights and sirens many times you want the element of surprise. not all cops are speeding to Dunkin’ Donuts.

There are some instances where lights/sirens could be a bad thing. If it is a situation where you want the element of surprise then they will often go 'dark'. Domestics, kidnapping, etc.
But yes, to blatantly ignore traffic laws is bad.

The instances I see most are cops just going ten or fifteen faster than traffic like they are anxious for shift change or something. I imagine if they are expediting to an active call or emergency that’s when they are going flat out. Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely pro cop and respect the hell out of the profession but I personally know and have known of cops who really shouldn’t be cops and they are the ones setting a bad example.

Stuff like this too....

Our illustrious Hennipen County Sherriff still has a job after this. They also found paraphernalia loose in the rolled over county vehicle ( not surprised it isn’t mentioned in this article). Not sure how many of you drive a company vehicle, but my guess if you get a DUI in it, you’d lose your vehicle and / or lose your job. It’s okay though because this Sherriff is a huge supporter of the MN Democrat party - nothing to see here.
