Safe Harbor, Southern Marinas and now REIT’s

We have a very fancy marina on both sides of ours owned by same owner. With us in middle. They pay $4k+ a year, we pay $1600. Keep hearing they want to buy ours and make one very large marina. We hope not. They will evict the live aboards and jack the rates.
Ours is a family business but eventually the dollars flashing may change their minds.

Yeah Great Oak is Great Oak, so nothing really changed there since SH bought them. Not many changes at my marina either (good thing), but two years of Covid hasn't helped anyone out either. The thing that hurts, will be next year. They closed Anne's and Red Eye's dock bar. Both gone for good in that location. Supposedly a new restaurant will be built after the new dock is in, but that could be 2023/4 time frame.

Our's is state owned. The state mismanaged it into the ground for the most part and took all the money to help fill budget gaps. They leased it to a private management company, and things have been better. They built a pool, brought in a brewery, added jet ski spots, rent paddle boards/bikes, etc. Rates have gone up a little bit and the city started taxing our slips, but all in all I can't complain. Although they still can't fill the place because they are a few hundred more than nearby marinas.

Anne’s and red eye!! Wow. Just wow. How they close Red Eye, it was a money maker; now where will all the gold chain hairy chested guys with the go fast boats go?
Take a short ride up to tolchester, best tiki bar in our area and free day slips on weekends.

Yep, no more red eye's. The dock need's to be replaced and safe harbor own's the property and needs to replace the dock so they closed Red Eye's. Also new fuel pumps etc.
 
Tell you what torque me about Great Oak. I called summer about staying 2 nights in their rooms at $150 a night, eat at their restaurant, drink at night bar, play a round of golf. Non holiday weekend. And they still wanted $75 a night for a slip. You cant throw in the slip as a courtesy? Really? Didnt go.
Before SH took over, the slip be comps, along with some bar drinks.

So as it stands right now according to SH officials at Kent Narrows, Red Eye's will be back for next summer. Permits did not get put in place quick enough for construction to start in time for summer. So Red Eye's will be back for one more year!

Anne's is still gone though, that one will be missed.

If you belong to any of the Safe Harbor marina's you get 12 night's free stay at any of their marina's. So I have not paid anything since belonging to Kent Narrows for stays at Great Oak. And last year because of so much rain, we stayed there many times instead of staying out on the hook.

Yes their bikini contest is out of hand and it's a few times a summer. But look up a few post's, SH didn't get their permits in order for this summers construction so Red Eye's will be back for one more year according to SH management.

Free slips and free drinks. Sounds like a great business plan. Make up the loss on volume. I wonder why they are no longer there? (;-)
 
So, are they still planning on building the condos at Kent Narrows SH

No that fell through and now SH owns them so according to them, not going to happen. Only a new restaurant where Red Eye's is now that will be more of a dock and dine family place. But that hasn't happened yet so we shall see.

Only Maryland and a corporation could screw up the Kent narrows
