HELLO,

I just got a 1976 Sea Ray SRV190 at the end of the summer. I'll explain everything i know that has been done to the boat before and after i received it and the issues I'm having. The previous owner did a complete rebuild of the boat. New stringers, foam, interior and paint. Motor was freshened up, electronic ignition, new carb, coil, wires, plugs, fuel pump. The lower unit was gone through with new gaskets / seals. previous owner gave up on the boat after only taking it out a handful of times and always getting stranded. The boats not perfect but in really nice shape.

When I received the boat I installed a new fuel line, fuel filter, battery and fresh gas and insulated the fuel lines. Got the boat to fire up and run perfectly on the muffs in the drive. Now on to the issues I'm Having.

Boat spes: Sea Ray SRV190. Mer233, Ford 302, Outdrive Pre Alpha.

When i first get to the landing i cannot get the boat to fire without a hit of ether. once it is running I am able to take off and the boat runs amazing. after running it for 20 -30 min and shutting it down some times it wont start without a hit of ether, sometimes it fires right back up! I have ran the boat with the bilge fan on the whole time, tried running it with the cover up it doesn't seem to be a heat issue. When the boat is running i can run it at any speed for as long as i want with no issues. The other time it gives me fits is when i go to load it on the trailer it likes to stall and not fire back up, i find this the most frustrating part because it sure makes you look like an ass at the landing. I'm thinking it is a fuel issue? i have heard that the camshafts on these older fords can get worn down and not operate the fuel pump correctly. Could the fuel be losing prime and leaking back down ? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jared

No idea, but welcome! I live 45 minutes West of you. I'd imagine there is a good mechanic in Rhinelander, but if not give the guys at Tomahawk Sports Center a call and ask them if you don't get help here. And show more pictures!

The carb is suspect. Both the float (stalls loading) and the heat insulating gasket between the carb and intake manifold.

I second carb. Not spitting, coughing, rough idle?
Hi El Captain,
Now that you mention it, it did stutter a bit a the landing last time we took it out, but just when I hammered the throttle down to get on plane and it never happened again. Besides that it idles and runs great. when stalling at the landing it happens when I'm making maneuvers, low idle, engaging the drive / going back to neutral. Like I mentioned in my previous thread when this happens I cannot get it to fire back up without a little ether. its almost like its not getting fuel at low speeds / starting.

Wanderer 290,
I appreciate the input and will look into the carb next spring as I have put it to sleep for the winter. Living in Wisconsin we have a short summer and the cold is coming. Don't want to chance a cracked block.
