started removing my shafts today so I can replace the stuufing box hoses.port side has a collar on the shaft,starboard didn't.
I see them listed on the Buck Algonquin site but it does not say what they do?
should I get new ones and put them on both shafts and how close to the hull do they go?
thanks for any reponses...still using conventional stuffing boxes which will be getting repacked.
boat is 1988 30 weekender.

Sea Ray used a square edged non tapered collar located close to the shaft log to force water into the stuffing box area to aid in cooling at higher hull speeds. Not needed if dripless shaft seals are installed.

@hottoddie
Was just about to ask the same question and I found this thread. Is this the same collar for cooling the stuffing box next to the zinc? Thanks
