Should you buy a gun or not?

Woody, pretty much everything I was going to say to answer your question has already been well-covered. Like Nathan, I question their numbers. Heck, they don't even know how many eagles there are so how can they come up with those numbers.

Many years ago WA switched to all steel shot for geese; might have been the whole country did at that time, but I'm not sure. Shooting steel loads made the hunter adjust his "swing" and aiming because the steel shot was so much faster than the lead as it flew through the air.

We have an eagles' nest about 1/2 mile upstream from where we live. It's always nice to see them soaring as they hunt for food.

The big issue with steel shot was it’s density. It fails to carry and penetrate leaving more cripples. Patterning was a problem as well as a few other ballistic issues. It also was hard on barrels and it couldn’t be used in some of the old classic water foul guns. Like everything else, create a need and they build a better mouse trap. It didn’t take long for bismuth and tungsten mixed with other metals to fill the bill. I suspect even though Barnes originally and now everybody else is making copper derivatives for nontoxic bullets, improvement will come as manufacturers are searching for the “ours is better than theirs” bullet. Just like the Partition was considered the best bullet for decades, there are other premium hunting bullets now that are just as good. The manufacturer of the partition now has a bonded bullet that is better than their own partition because the competition’s offerings demanded it.

Remember...if you let a round go, you are responsible for whatever it does and wherever it goes, whether you are justified or not...I'm licensed to carry in all 50 states and that responsibility is always forefront...the liability in today's climate is immense...think clearly and carefully...you could lose a lot in an instant.

Just bought a Henry Big Boy 44 mag on Monday, but do you think I can find ammo locally ?

I have found that shooting a 44mag gets unfun fairly quickly. Not a good plinker.
