Show off your dock

Very cool video.

This thread has been so interesting. I love seeing how differently everyone enjoys their boats and environments.
I agree! Lots of places I want to visit now.

One common thing I noticed we all have. We love boats, being on the water , family , friends and the life style that boating offers.

I'll try. Here is is back in the day -- full. These days it's half empty.

Here it is early morning sunrise.

Owned by the State. They ran it into the ground. Now run by Westec. Fixed all the docks. Put in a pool. It's nice because it's in a forest preserve -- quite and away from all the hustle and bustle.

Where is this?

A stock photo from our marinas website below. I believe this was taken this year.

I'm somewhere across from that island, far down on the right.
Nice design where you can park your car right at the slip!

So I'm guessing, since it is half empty it is in Illinois?

MM
Yep. Owned by IL and managed by the DNR. Just last year, the state gave up and hired Westrec to manage it. The place was decimated by the recession and boaters never really came back. It's the biggest marina on the great lakes, so even at half full it's a lot of boats.

Many of my dock friends once were in Illinois and I have heard crazy stories of government malfeasance.

There is one other "dock" that has not been mentioned. I have made lifelong friends there, have given and been given trip, time, and money saving advice. Laughed my a$$ off, mourned with friends over loss or pain, and lived a passion we share.

It is a "virtual dock" with friends you can't wait to see what they say or what they are up to. Because without friends this would be just an online Chilton's.

Thanks Jim for maintaining this "dock". Thanks to Scott and Chuck for keeping the lines tied.

You guys really are old, no one asked what a Chilton's is. LOL

MM

yep. have several Chiltons books...lol

Marina where I am. Second row back from in front of the Dolphin Quay Restaurants and 4th in from the end on left hand side. Close to many amenities, restaurants, bars, bottleshop etc.

Floating jetties, water and unmetered power. No dock boxes, cover or the ability to drive up to your pen like some of the others i see here.

Great thread - interesting to see how the rest of the world does it :).

Another pic - estaury to the top of the pic. My pen is the middle jetty near the end on the left hand side. Plenty of atmosphere from other boats and the surrounding bars / restaurants.

Another pic looking further up the estaury....homes on the canals to the right.

Looking back the other way with the marina at the top left hand corner. Open ocean and our coast at the very top of the pic and anchoring area in the middle of the pic. Just out of the inlet on the left hand side is a mooring area too.

I wrote software about 15 years ago to integrate the Chilton/Motor labor time data into our repair pricing guide for dealerships. About 4,000 dealerships across the US and Canada use our pricing guide instead of relying on books for labor and EPC for parts. Just yesterday I had to answer some questions on the data feed after they sent us bad data for one vehicle back in September. We actually would create a physical book of customized repair prices back in 96 when I started (had to deliver a new one every month, that was no fun).

I trailer, so no marina for me. I usually launch at Oneida Shores Park, east end of Oneida Lake in New York. $10/launch, $100 season.

I’m envious of a lot of you guys after seeing your set ups. Especially some of those covered slips.
BTW: I still have an old Chilton’s that covers my 68 GTO. I keep it along with some old magazine articles and advertisements about that make and model.
