Show off your dock

being a ramp guy most of my life...That's a nice ramp :)

Indiana has the worst ramps, The ramps in Michigan were so civilized with their piers to launch and retrieve from and the no power loading rules. Try loading a 270 in 30 mph crosswinds with no piers to help hold you and trailer so deep you cannot see the bunks. That was when I added the load guides.

We kept a boat on Geist for years... the ramp was okay but the flippin people that used it were a nightmare... it was like they would come there to practice backing up... it was just insane... you had to come prepared with the proper attitude or you would just lose it.... on top of that the fee was $35.... I just hated that ramp.

You know that high fee was to discourage boating on the lake as it was to crowded on weekends.

I have never been to verify this but old timers have told me that in the late 40's the Army Corps of Engineers proposed a lake like Lake Cumberland that would run from Morse to Geist. That would cover most of what we now have as Fishers. The powers that be at the time said Indianapolis will never need that much water so they killed it.

I keep my boat in a high and dry, but when I spend the night, marina will find a slip for me, only charge 20$ for electric.
Here I am in the I dock, floating, well protected, lots and lots of sailboat live aboards.

No... that was that money grubbing guy that owns it... I cant think of his name this minute. That's what he wants you to believe...he's dead now...unfortunately his son is the same.... I live in one of his developments.... where he charges $350k to $500k for a lot on the water...that family could give a rat's ass how many boats are on the reservoir...it will always be about the money... which is why the lake and the dump of the marina is the way it is... Monroe included....How in the world he got away with owning both is beyond me....

Not sure where you got all that. The lake is owned by the Indianapolis Water Company. The Marina is owned by Marina Limited Partnership. As is the undeveloped land around the lake. Same for Morse reservoir. Monroe is state owned.

We are fortunate to have choices among several marinas that have nice facilities. While we use a marina for winter storage only, my impression is people are happy with the facilities during the boating season. Our winter storage marina has outstanding services. They can fix anything and recently added a paint shed for large boats in the 75-80 foot size range. The marinas in West Michigan are expanding and improving facilities. They would not be doing that if profits were weak.

This is the DEC dock i sometimes use on the west end of the lake. Free with two porti onsite and parking for 50ish. I only used it once in 2018, the small dock was pulled out for repairs so it was rather crowded.

We're fortunate to have a dock with a ton of dock space in addition to a 50' slip. Plenty of room for gatherings, smoking the food, and watching football games on a 50" TV when not watching out on the lake.

The one thing that sucks is our marina, I'm pretty sure, has the worst "break wall" known to marina's. Granted we're a lake, but when we get a howling wind outta the north, the 2' white caps will roll right through the marina. Fortunately that doesn't happen too often, but when it does - it's really annoying.

Are you at Eagle Point on Lewisville? Looks like Eagle's Nest dock. We were there for 20 years.

That dock is nicer than some inner city apartments I've been in. Bigger too. Would rent for 2,500 to 3,000 in San Francisco with out the water!

I'll try. Here is is back in the day -- full. These days it's half empty.

Owned by the State. They ran it into the ground. Now run by Westec. Fixed all the docks. Put in a pool. It's nice because it's in a forest preserve -- quite and away from all the hustle and bustle.

Golfman - what dock are you on? Youbub and I are on C Dock.

Yep. Owned by IL and managed by the DNR. Just last year, the state gave up and hired Westrec to manage it. The place was decimated by the recession and boaters never really came back. It's the biggest marina on the great lakes, so even at half full it's a lot of boats.

I would love to see it 1/2 full. It is closer to 30% occupied but Westrec does have some new boats joining us.

An employee/friend of mine is a sailboater. He texted me on Sunday about work (he was working that day to make up time) and I let him know it was going to be 83 with wind speeds of 5kts or less, and I was taking the boat out. His response was, well with winds at 5kts that’s even more reason to go to work today. He doesn’t enjoy boating unless the wind is 15kts or higher. He will come around, his fiancée is really keen on the power boats (specifically nice cruisers!), so, it’s just a matter of time and money!

View attachment 62938 View attachment 62939 I just got a 100’ slip in Falmouth Harbor, MA. They are hard to get and I have been on the waiting list for 3 years to get a larger slip to hold a 52db so we could move up from our 340da. We have to pay a fortune in Falmouth, $16,000 April 1st - Oct 31st but we have so many great destinations within 0-3hr cruise from us it is worth it.

The sky in that second photo is awesome, great pic
