We just got back from a place called Stehekin on the 55 mile long Lake Chelan. It's a small community that has a population of about 85 year round and about 200 in the summer. It used to be a passage that the indians used to get through the Cascade mountains to trade with other indians and eventually the settlers.
It's absolutely breathtaking and very relaxing. there's no cell service or tv, and there's one satellite pay phone in town.
We stayed for six nights and this was the first trip that we have taken on our Sea Ray.
It was myself, my wife, and my mom.
It's the third deepest lake in the US at 1400' and is known for it's nasty waves, which we got a small taste of on our way back. It got pretty nasty, we were taking quite a bit of spray over the bow and a 24' Bayliner got in behind our wake to smooth his ride out. The Dancer took them well though and it was a bit of fun.
There are a lot of boat in campgrounds and we stayed at two different ones before staying close to Stehekin.
The first campground called Domke Falls, we came back here and hiked 5 miles round trip to Domke Lake.

Manly Wham campground the second night.

Our third and final campground.

You guys have some amazing waterways

Nice pics !!. .

Greg, How deep is the water out there ?.

Wayne, the deepest part of the lake is just over 1400'. There was quite a bit of 200'-500' close to shore and the very back where the solid dock is it's 10'-25'.
It's a natural lake but back in 63 if memory serves me right they put in a hydro dam that raised the level 20 something feet.

That is cool. I've always wanted to trailer over there and make that run. Thanks for posting.
I've been to Chelan several times just never run up to Stehekin. Chelan is so clean. The only downside is those afternoon winds that kick the 3'-4'ers up.

Glad you guys are enjoying them. This was our third time back there and it never gets old. My mom visits the month of August from Az and I like to take her somewhere that she won't forget and Stehekin is just that.
I just love that you're seperated from the world with no cell service, it just doesn't get more relaxing.
We're already talking about next year and taking my bro-in-law.
Todd, it's worth the trip if you can make it. Put out at 25 mile creek and boat thirty miles back to Stehekin. THere are numerous creeks and waterfalls along the way.

Greg, that's a great trip. I did that many years ago with my 20' bowrider and you're right about the afternoon waves. What a beautiful place that is. We found spots where we were less than 100' from the mountainous shore and it was too deep for the 600' depth finder to read. Kinda scary when you think about it. And that lake is COOOOOOOLD!!!

Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

We were able to swim in it this year Mike, just long enough to get wet, soap up, and rinse off.
