1997 SeaRay Sundancer 270
Engines
454 Mercruiser with Bravo III
We got a 1997 SeaRay 270 Sundancer brokered by Skipper Buds at Winthrop Harbor this summer - we have the boat at Montrose in Chicago and plan to take it up via the water this weekend. Anyone have any experience with them winterizing boats?

Thanks!

Stored there last year - no issues with winterization. Boat was lifted out on schedule and ready for launch on time. I’ve chosen to store closer to the city this year, as it’s quite a hike via car from the city - so working on it over the winter was difficult. Mechanics during the season charge a $200+ call out fee, another reason I’ve gone closer to the city.

I'm in winthrop. I have used their Volo location for my 24' for years, always good for winterization. I asked around the dock about where to go with our 40' this winter, and overall the feedback was good. As long as you have your haulout and service scheduled you should be good. Their service isn't cheap, but expect them to do good work.

I have used them for years. As stated, not cheap but their work is usually pretty good. Just make sure you double check that they did what you want. With all the boats they do, mistakes can happen. One year they almost shrink wrapped my boat. I have also found dealing with them face to face works the best.

Thanks for the advice - we have some scheduled maintenance. Also, we have cockpit canvas that we would like to get repaired, so we will probably put up the camper canvas - any thoughts on storing there with camper canvas?

Thanks!

I am at Winthrop also. I stored my 340 both ways - with the camper canvas and with only the mooring cover. No problem.

They have winterized my boat without any issue. But I pay for heated indoor storage.

With a 27' you could go up on the rack at Northpoint with no issues. I paid for floor storage so I could work on the boat during the winter and I ended up in a storage building down in Zion.

Are you inside or outside?

We are inside thank you

Then you're fine with the camper canvas. But I would put a light plastic tarp over it just for protection especially if you're in a rack.

Thanks - appreciate all the answers and insights!
