has anyone put a small nitrous shot on a 4.3 litre merc just to get her outa the water quicker. i always have a full boat, and sometimes pulling a tube the boat becomes quite sluggish.

im thinking a 30-50 shot would help a great deal, and i know in a car engine you can run a 50 shot in a 6 cyl with very small risk of damaging your engine.

i was thinking about doing a wet shot, around 30 hp. i would also get a wideband 02 to keep an eye on the afr.

thoughts?

The standard fix for time to plane is a switch to a propeller with two inches less pitch. Nitrous requires a modified fuel system, which is nuts on a boat. I would not consider it.

If you want to improve your plane, look into the smart tabs. They will get your but out of the water and up on plane in no time. My 180 sport would plane out around 12 mph with the smart tabs. Best $150 I have ever spent on a boat upgrade. They also make her much more stable in waves, eliminate chine walking and eliminate poruposing. Trust me, you'll be happy that you did! I will even add them to my 220 Sundeck (what the heck)!

you actually wouldnt have to modify anything. just toss in the kit and go. stock plugs, stock fuel pump, stock jets. stock timing. would all stand up very well to a low hp shot.

all you need is a wetkit so it shoots extra fuel while your spraying your nitrous.

i will look into those tabs, i have seen em its probabaly a good idea.

I would personally look into SmartTabs and prop changes. Nitrous seems like a stretch.

oh yea, it forsure is. im not saying this is the most practical way to do what i want to do. but it would be pretty cool to have nitrous on a boat :p.

if i knew forsure that it would hold up without issues i would do it in a minute. you can get a ntirous kit for like 500 bucks.

bye bye warranty of any kind (if there is any on it)

its just a 2 year engine warranty isnt it? so it would be void anyways. i dont know. im probabaly not going to do it. im going to look into those tabs. but it would be pretty cool to do.

I may be off target here but you are pushing your boat with the prop against the water. Chances are that any additional quick HP gain may be lost due to the prop slipping on the water. Those of us with hiigher HP engines probably have different props also. Seems to me that your best bets would be trim tabs or prop changes or both.

lose some of your friends!

yea i always cram to many people. but as far as bigger boat and have them chip in some money... good luck haha, tried it before. i hate asking and my friends are all cheap.

Then they can ride their bikes :)

Although I have never asked, all of my friends chip in when they come out...so far this year I have received a $75 gas card, $60 cash, and lots of beer and food. The cash I got went into the annual pool party fund for this year, so they will kind of get it back anyway.

This is the friends who dont have boats. The friends with boats we just go out on each others boats.

Luckily, yours and mine dont suck a lot of gas, so it isnt a big deal.

yea i get that when im on the river around town. we always stop for drinks and stuff. i never pay my own bill. out at the cabin i dont really see anything. but like you said, its cheap enough that who really cares. if it was 150-200 a day it would be a different story. but as far as $50 a day if im lucky. thats fine with me.

You're just going to cavitate with if you tried to go the NOS route anyway. Change the prop and you'll obtain the results you're after.

not to mention a lifetime supply of sunglasses and coolie cups!

haha cool vid. i know every one thinks this is a very stupid idea, but nitrous has come a very long way from when people first started using it. if done correctly it's actually better on your motor than running forced induction.

OK, 10 minutes ago, you had a 2006 Cummins in your sig, now it's a 2007 Chevy...

NOS = BAD NEWS for the boat motor. It is not a car motor...

One, you run the risk of popping a head gasket, and second, adding HP to your outdrive will destroy it. It was designed for the HP that the motor can put out.
