Hello fellow boaters!

Sorry if this has been posted a million times before (hard to search past posts on phone).

I have a 2003 Sea Ray 200 with a 4.3 MPI. I read somewhere that SmartCraft was only available for the 4.3 starting in 2004. But I also read somewhere that this purple harness (please see pic) is the SmartCraft terminal. So, does my boat have SmartCraft? I’d love to buy a VesselView if so and start logging data!

Looks like you do. You can confirm by sending Mercruiser your serial number. I have it on my 01 horizons, so I can’t imagine you don’t.

Your 4.3 is SmartCraft "ready". Meaning the ECM outputs SC, but your boat doesn't have the wiring up to the helm to take advantage.

Merc must make a harness for that? Got the same issue with a 8.1 Baja, I'd like a digital tach.

Yeah. there will be a harness, a junction box, and a couple of terminators you will need to install. You can get a harness with a built in terminator for the engine end. You'll run that up to your helm to a j-box, and plug a terminator into the box. Then your gage(s) will plug into the j-box. An alternate approach would be to install a SC to NMEA2000 gateway, and just put everything on your NMEA 2000 bus. That makes for a much cleaner installation.
