There's a few things that'd cause the fuel thing, I wouldn't worry about any of 'em, they're fixable.

As for the engine, if it were a case where you wanted to repower, I'd consider the possibilities of going Bravo (replacing the transom assembly) or a 454 on the existing transom... not difficult to do, so long as you got the proper parts for the whole assembly. A late '80's Pachanga would donate the whole thing... and a 1.34:1 Alpha One SS drive to match... but I'd stick with the 1.5:1 in the original drive.

The 454's additional weight won't make a significant difference in sea nature. The power curve and torque will help it hold plane at slow, and allow it to climb higher on cruising, with less throttle force... which grants an opportunity for increased efficiency if the speed isn't uncomfortable.

Nah. I’m not that much of a DIYer except for maintenance and turning a ratchet. Nor do I want to.
There are a couple classics out there in beautiful shape that are water ready that are more my style.
I’m in salt now and really want to cross over to Bimini as often as I wish. If a smaller SR had the range I’d probably be happy enough w a 185 but they sport an 18 gal tank so it would be cutting it close unless I strapped a 6gal to the step platform.

There’s a 22 Weekender w a flat rear deck I have my eyes on. It’s already been reduced in price once.

I’ll probably pull the trigger in September.

But Bimini is the destination.
