Boat Info
2000 28 ft sundancer
Engines
454 mercruiser with bravo drive
Owing 22 years , A 1984 walk around , cuddy cabin sea ray Fisherman
21 ft - comments at ramp, HEY NICE BOAT NEVER KNEW SEA RAY MADE A WALK AROUND
Power - 4 cylinder Mercruiser , 488 ,
Original engine was done , I covered boat , Has been sitting 5 years on a trailer
Wife would say Why don't you sell Sea Ray , My answer , I don't know , Like working on it , go outside find it relaxing but a boat with a NG engine has very little value ,

Lost my head and Purchased a 31 ft luxury cabin cruiser few years ago
white deck , white seating , not a fishing boat
My boating tastes changed , cruising , marina life, retired I am on boat often

While back a buddy was selling a 4 cylinder mercruiser . Purchased
Cant compare boats but a smaller trailer fishing boat , kept home has lots of advantages

Time has come, since I had the hull , good trailer , and low hour engine way not I had the time , start working on Sea Ray ,

While removing NG engine Found transom on Sea Ray was soft under glass , digging further Stringers NG , All the wood rear of boat , ROT
Common with older boats that used wood under the glass.

Contacted a number of restoration shops , too do the job correct 7 thousand
Time I am done with engine install , rebuild of Alpha 1 a 5 thousand dollar boat become 12 thousand plus , Then its still a old boat , no tee top , seats shot , cabin cushions smell , worn and no cabin just a small area , adult cant stand , just lay out
And same old power IO , these days way too go is OB
I have seen early 2000 thousands boats 15 thousand with OB and modern appointments plus no wood core ,

SAD , a decision ,
Stripped everything , fuel tank railings , seats, dash gauges, harness , shifter , lights,
not too sell , ( in case I find another boat with good transom )
Trailer is VG , duel axle with newer drum brakes , good rubber ,
Taking boat too land fill this week
33 dollars a thousand lbs , NO engine, no liquids , Maybe it will cost me 65 bucks ,
They will assist , so I can leave with trailer , say good buy too my once loved Sea Ray
Shame want too sell too a person on a budget too keep this boat alive but no takers

No pics , some reason cant do it Google Sea Ray Fisherman , comes up

Hmmm, the term "masochistic" comes to mind.

There are many types of boaters in the world. Some like to buy a fixer-upper and tinker with it, others like to buy a boat that's ready to use and doesn't need tinkering with.

I think you and I each represent one of those two groups. Not saying either is better than the other, just different.

Have fun tinkering.

Drop the wrench and step away from the boat. There are programs for people like you:):)

Good luck with the project....

I'm clearly NOT the guy to talk you out of anything but, I feel your pain but with a different outcome....

Four and a half years ago I bought back a 1985, 23' Cobalt that I owned 20 years ago. The model is rare but more importantly (or stupidly is more appropriate) there was quite a bit of sentimental value there. For what I got, I overpaid but I didn't care....I wanted her back. My plan was to get it running, clean it up real good and just enjoy it. Six months and a few grand and we'd be good to go.

Well....she is nearly complete. But it's taken 4 years and I am into the project nearly $19,000....for a boat NADA states is worth about $4500. Uuuhhh….I got a bit carried away. Almost everything is new or rebuilt. But I still love the boat and I never fail to get compliments when out in it. I also never plan to sell it....can't afford to. I've given my wife instructions to just bury me in it when I die.

That boat is beautiful.

It’s like stocks and investments....when you start losing more than your gaining...time to cut the loses and move on...we have too little time on this planet and it should be spent with family and friends and enjoying the little things.
