Hi, do you think it is a good idea to carry spare props on a 1995 Sundancer 330 with v-drives?
and if so, what size props do you recommend? the boat currently has 3 blade props, not sure the size? also if anyone knows the shaft size, would be great
Thanks!

I think it depends upon where you boat. It is a good idea to have spare props, but storage is at a premium on a 33 foot boat. We always kept our spares at home and only needed them one time when we hit an unmarked Indian fishing net. We were able to pick them up in a few hours and were on our way when the swap was made. If you boat in remote ares with lot of hazards like lobster pots, it may be better to find a spot for them on your boat.

The other thing to ask is how realistic is it for you to have them swapped if you needed to. On a v drive boat that’s a diver job, or haul out. Might be doable where you normally stay, just a thought.

Thanks, I will probably put spurs on the shafts as well, does anyone know standard shaft size?

I carried a spare (the original 3 bladed props) on my 1995 330DA. Honestly, looking back, there really was no reason to. I hit a log once, grounded another time, both events bent a prop. I was able to limp back to homeport though. I installed the 3 bladed props while waiting for the 4 bladed ones to be repaired.

Pulling the props is no easy/fun job. I ended up buying a fancy gizmo that made it easier, and, well, it's sitting in my basement, never to be used again probably.
