In full disclosure I have not bought the boat yet. Still looking at it. (2001 Sea Ray 310 Sundancer)

Speed readout is not working on the Raymarine Tri gauge. Any ideas on how to correct?

    Thanks in advance.

In order to get any reasonable response, you need to give more info on both the boat and the instrument. Are you referring to a digital tri-data gauge? What is the 310's propulsion system, etc.? The more info you provide, the better the responses will be.

Make sure it's set to "SOG" (speed over ground) and not "Speed"?

Yes, I am referring to the digital two-data gauge. It is a 2001 310 Dancer with 350 MAG engines with V-Drive.

Is that a setting on the digital trip-data gauge or on the GPS unit itself?

The tridata gets its speed from a mechanical paddle wheel installed in the hull. It does not receive or process GPS data so it can not show speed over ground. I have the same unit on my 2001 boat and it also always reads zero. The paddle wheel generally just craps out pretty easily. I just use GPS SOG speed on my chart plotter and have given up on paddle wheel speed through the water, and am not sure what I would use it for anyway.

You don't by chance have a copy of that manual you could send me, (and the stock GPS unit) do you?

If it gets speed from a paddlewheel, they are notorious for collecting marine growth. They should be pulled out and the dummy plug put in at the end of every day's use. Also, a toothbrush works wonders in cleaning them. Lastly, some dry lube will help keep them clean and running. Check for compatibility with the plastics.
