Splash 2019

View attachment 68212 The water was high this weekend.
She's floating, although almost into the parking lot.....

That's amazing, I didn't realize the Great Lakes could fluctuate like that. Is it a wind thing just blowing more water into your basin? Given the picture, I'm surprised they aren't floating docks.

Because we are in harbors with channels off the lake when the winds blows out of the north east it pushes all the water into the channels and floods them with the water.

The mean water level is much higher this year. But as DVX216 said, the wind will change the level as much as two feet or more in a few hours. Normally it's not an issue but with the higher mean level, we are getting our feet wet now. A lot of marinas do have floating docks, sadly we don't:(

It's SCOTCH, my dad liked scotch, but called it SCROTCH after he had a couple..... ;)

It is scotch...scotch is bad on a boat. I don't have it often but when it's chilly outside and the heater is on in the cockpit it just feels right :)

Rock or no rocks, that’s a big Scotch if it’s straight up.

I just caught myself realizing that I’d pour a rum on the rocks just like it.

Carry on. :p

He only had them after he was docked for the night, he didn't need any heat in the cockpit down here..... ;)

Well the temps down and the water like 3 foot higher thanks to the weather the wall in the back ground has 3 foot or more showing normally.

Same here. There are 2 large waterfalls at the south end of my canal...2 miles south.

It poured for an hour. Got maybe 3 inches of rain. The water level rose a foot in that hour with tons of floating debris.

A steady north wind blew another 6 inches in off the lake. There were white caps in the canal going against the current.

I’m supposed to splash the first weekend in May and hope the weather settles down by then.

Finally in! Launched before the new canvas was finished but I'm ok with that. As a few have said, the beer just tastes better on the boat! Shake down cruise tonight and systems checks. Next weekend should have new canvas and cockpit carpet done. It's been a VERY LONG winter. Portside Marina in two weeks. Can't wait!

Our harbor still has ice over 50% but its melting fast. Only one boat launched at the marina and its still at the main service dock because some slips still have a bit of ice. Crazy. Water levels are really high on Georgian Bay. The walking ramps that normally slope down to the floating docks now slope up. I won't launch till late May this year.
