Does any one have a particular way of commissioning thier boat each spring? I generally get as much done as I can on the hard. Then go directly to my dock to finish the job. The first trip out to the lake, I take it easy and don't push the girl to much. I do alot of listening, a bit of praying and poking around we when I get dock side again.
Course that's just me.

Always a bit nerve racking the first time I fire it up. I used to run the hose over and fire it on muffs but now I just have the mechanic splash it and do it in the water. I replaced a all the remote oil hoses this year so I'll be extra watchful for oil pressure and leaks when I start the motors for the first time.

I roll onto the throttle extra slow all the time anyways, but I definitely listen a lot closer the first time we go up on plane.

Although well drained and fogged, our boat spends a cold winter in the driveway under well vented tarps. As mentioned the initial flash up is always a bit of a test of the nerves. Other than new drive oil, tightening clamps and checking electrical connections in the bige, I run it on the muffs for 15-20 mins. Clear the fogging, bring it up the temp and have a good look to make sure there is no leaks.
On the water, I treat it like I am breaking in a new engine for the better part of the first hour. Vary the rpm's and allow internal temps to rise and fall several times. Idle it down and recheck it again for leaks.
After that it is all about being back on the water and business goes back to usual.
