My mechanic advised using motorcycle chain spray lubricant. Has anyone tried this , and any specific amazon recommendations?

Chain lube will help, but, if you're as uptight about those things as I am, you can swap out the hardware for "wet" bolts. i.e. cross-drilled with grease fittings. I went that route on my travel trailer. Muy bien!
