Is a squishy deck or stains in the mid cabin carpet a reason to avoid purchasing a 340? It was mentioned to me that the stains could be a sign of bulkhead rot and the fore deck bounce almost certainly is rot. Are these fixable or a deal killer?

Thanks!

Thank you for your quick reply. I'm looking to purchase and I'm trying to decide if it's worth paying for a survey or if I should just walk away?

If you look search through this site you'll find a lot of information on this topic. unless you are getting the boat for a price that is well under market value, to offset the cost of the repairs... run!

Squishy deck is common on that era 340. I have looked at several, and probably 3/4 had deck issues. One had been fixed. It was done from the top by a professional. They ground out all of the diamond non-skid and put more traditional non-skid back due to matching problems. Was a very nice job and you wouldn't notice the non-skid issue if you didn't know better. Cost was like $6-7K. If you go from underneath, the costs skyrocket. Good luck.

I have a soft spot in mine now. My plan is to use inject a decking. its when you say a soft bulkhead that I would recommend a survey.
