Steering rack, grease or oil?

I have my steering apart and noticed a zerk fitting (#2 in thge attached diagram) on top of the rack. I read in a post that the rack uses oil which kind of makes sense based on what I'm seeing on the gears/parts I've pulled. I can't find a manufacturer name on the unit but assuming it's OMC as that is the outdrive I have.

Advice appreciated.

OMC recommended grease for the zerk fitting twice a year. The oil is for the cable. There are some Teflon products that work on cable which is used at both ends while you extend and retract the ram.

SBW1, thanks.

I'm assuming marine or lithium grease would be OK?
Lithium grease resists water absorption so a good quality lithium grease should work well. Not sure I would pay extra for "marine" grease.
