I was diagnosing an overheating problem today and was under the boat on scuba. I found the dome shaped strainer grate that covers the sea water inlet was crushed so badly that it was restricting water flow. Anyone know what this part is called and where I can get it? Is it practical to replace it in the water on scuba? Thanks all

That is an easy one......I wouldn't even consider doing it in the water. The strainer grate has a threaded nipple on the top that screws into the seacock. When you take the grate off, you remove the ecrews in the bottom and unscrew the grate from the seacock. That usually breaks all the seal around the seacock where it is bedded into the hull.

Given your location, Treasure Island Marina stocks the grates, or used to. If you don't keep your boat there, I would call ahead and make an appointment to have them lift the boat and have someone with experience replace the grate and rebed the seacock. That way they can look up your boat and be sure they have the grate in stock when ever you are ready to have the work done. Also, this is a pretty easy job for Treasure Island. They can lift your 320DA with one of the forklifts, set it on a rack outside the shop and probably have the boat back in the water as soon as the sealant dries the next morning.

Also, my boat is in one of the covered slips at Treasure Island.

Thanks Frank. I was afraid that it might be a little more complex than a couple of screws...

My boat lived at Treasure Island before I bought it, it is now at PC Marina, which is a bit more convenient for me. TI lifted it with a forklift when we were doing the survey. One of the service guys at TI is an old friend, I will drop him a line and see when he can get me taken care of.

I appreciate all of your contributions to the forum, I have learned a lot from your posts as I lurked :)

Best, Chan
