I'm wanting to upgrade Stereo, dash stereo control, and VHF. New boater/owner just looking for some common answers to common questions.

With replacement VHF, is the mounting straight forward or will it require modification? Should i expect the antenna to hookup without modification?

Is the radio install and dash control usually pretty straight forward?

Radio upgrade should be pretty straightforward however a cabled remote will be a pain to run look for a wireless remote.

VHF Radio is also straightforward with two concerns. 1) NEMA connection to GPS if needed and 2) dash hole is to large for most newer VHF radios. We manufacture and sell a series of dash filler planels that accomplishes that. PM or send me a request.

I also owned a 2003 260DA and know the boat well.

Thanks for the tip about the wireless remote, do they typically still mount on the dash? Or is it handheld?

So i should just buy a radio that is same size or smaller, then likely get a filler panel for VHF?

Lastly how do you remove/install the Stereo, take out the breaker panel underneath to gain access?

That is the idea. If you have a particular VHF in mind and want to know if we have a filler plate for it check with me in advance.

The old Clarion should have two silver covers on the left and right sides that pop off. The screws will be hidden behind them. You can remove the DC panel cover to get access to the connections behind.

Same as the GX1400 dimension wise (I believe)

I actually already ordered it this morning

We (Cove Marine) have a dash filler panel specific to the GX-1300/GX-1400. These dash panels are CNC cut out of Black ABS and are approx 1/8 inch wider than the metal flush mount bracket for the the Ray215. The holes are pre-drilled in the panel to use the same holes as the old Ray 215. You will need the flush mount kit for the VHF to install it. If you are interested please fill out our request form and I will email you with current pricing for CSR members. If you want to call me with questions you can get my phone from our website. Please note your CSR screen name in the comments and if you want me to call you please note that along with the best time.

Thanks

Do you by chance know the diameter and/or cutout diameter for the radio remote?

Kevin, the VHF filler bracket worked great, do you guys make anything for the Stereo?
I bought a Fusion RA70

Glad to here the Ray215 Filler Panel worked out. For the fusion nothing specific ... yet. Our solid filler plate may work out but I need to check mounting templates on both units. I will call/email you to discuss.

Kevin,

Just checking in, never got a call from anyone.

I tried the "Fusion MS-CLADAP Adaptor Plate for 600 and 700 Series Stereo"
That fit the radio itself but did not cover the opening from the old Clarion so I ended up sending it back.
Am still in need of something.
