Hi all,

Brand new here. My wife and I are ready to get our first boat and we're big fans of the SeaRay Sundeck series. It's the perfect boat for a day on Puget Sound or a lake. Right now we have an offer on a consignment boat with our local SeaRay dealer and I thought I'd ask if we should continue moving forward. Here are the details:

  • 2002 SeaRay Sundeck 220
  • 600 Hours
  • Dual Batteries
  • Bimini
  • Canvas covers (in good shape)
  • One owner boat, full service records, always serviced at this dealer
  • New 2017 EZ-Loader galvanized trailer with electric winch
  • Current negotiated price @ $25,000
Blue book on this boat with trailer is about $23k but I hear NADA is low and doesn't reflect reality. During inspection they discovered it needed a new oil line, new oil pan, and a rebuild of the outdrive including new bellows, new zincs, etc. nearly $10,000 in work (the dealer says). The seller was willing to put in the money as he is retired and wants to go RV'ing and just needs it gone, his only ask was we come up $1,000 to the current price. The rest of the boat is in pretty good shape for being 16 years old, the carpet is clean, the vinyl is good, there is a little sun damage on the dash hood but that's an easy enough fix I hear. All in all, the boat looks like it's in really nice shape and the one owner, full service records, plus all these new parts (and a new trailer) make it attractive, but I thought it was worth getting some other opinions. Let me know what you think!

220 Sundeck was one of Sea Ray’s best and most popular. I would say that price it is the ballpark, not the best but not bad. My local dealer has an identical boat, same model, year, and equipment, advertised for $24,500.

Given that it needed all this work on inspection should I be worried? The dealer said the work wouldn't have been discovered if they weren't doing a mechanical inspection as it hasn't yet impacted the function of anything. The engine itself seems great, compression test returned 200 on all cylinders with very little variation.

Did you buy it?
