Hi,

I am looking at getting a Sundeck 240 in the future and am going to build a 30x30 garage next year. I know it will be close to put it in the garage on the trailer. can one of the swing away options work on this size boat? Not worried about pulling the boat as I have a 2002 7.3 diesel Excursion.

Thanks,
Joe

Are you looking at a newer 240SD, or the older design? They are different.

Joe, when I had a 220 Sundeck, I tried to find a swing away tongue trailer or a modification; I had no luck

Thanks for the link. I was looking for real world advice - read about pre-mature wear of the pivot point in a bunch of threads - on smaller boats. Just wondering if anyone did it with this size and had any luck (good or bad)

From that era, if my memory serves, the 240SD was not available with a "Sea Ray" trailer (actually made by Shoreland'r). The smaller models were and were often available with a swing-tongue as standard equipment. Although it did depend on the model year as it became a more popular feature as the years went on. So from that model year range of 240SD (great boat, by the way!) there will be a different trailer under it (if the PO had one, that is). It's all going to come down to what type of trailer it is, the tongue size/configuration, etc. There are swing-tongue kits out there, you just need to have a trailer tongue that can be adapted. You'll also need to change the brake line from a hard line to a flexible line.

The kits were originally available only for smaller boats/trailers, but the kits have gotten more beefy as time went on and now they are available in strong enough kits for the weight of the older 240SD. As far as reliability - they have been excellent... at least the ones that I am familiar with through the dealership (new and used boats). I suppose there could be some "cheapie" kits out there, though.
