Looks like it should work. Hard to screw up as there are only 4 wires needed. Power, ground, port and starboard engine signal. Make sure you are about 18 or more inches away from a magnetic source and you tie wrap the wires. What did the yard do that they could not make it work? Bad gauge?

I just asked them to change the gauge & they did. Then they were busy & never had time to look at it again. I figured if its something simple like this I would just swap it myself. I don't really know anything about the sync system unfortunately. Is there something else that would cause the gauge to become inoperative?
 
There is a sender on each engine. Perhaps they could fail, but not likely both at the same time. I would look at the grounding and power connections. That's about all I can offer. The yard should have run the problem down when they were looking at it. Sorry to be of so little help.
