I have read a few post from years past on the forums about the old system but have not seen anything current I am looking for a display or entire ipx system monitor for a 1997 410 EB or any year that will swap. The display has 12 led and an alarm in the shape of a boat show engine functions and bilge pumps. Any help would be appreciated.

Good luck with that. I tried for at least 5 years to find a replacement with no luck. And the unit is potted so forget about repairs.

Dredgeman, when we had an electrical 'fire storm' on our boat last year one of the things that got taken out was our systems monitor panel. It sounds much like the one you described. I don't know if the boat yard still has the old panel, or what kind of shape it's in, but if they still have it and you want it for parts you are welcome to it.

I just left a msg for the boat yard owner. When he calls back I'll ask him if he still has it and what kind of shape it is in.

FYI, we replaced it with a different kind of monitor that is all digital. If you want, I'll take a photo of it and send it to you.

I am interested in how you converted the system please send pictures of your work and what system you used to replace the old one. Thank you

Thanks for the reply. What did you end up doing as a remedy or alternative?

We were lucky, in that we had a lower station with its own panel. Because I never drove from the lower station, I swapped the good panel to the bridge helm and filled the lower station hole with the inoperative panel.

GFC,

I'd be very interested in that as well. I had tried to get a repair/ replacement for my existing monitor years ago. The fellow that repaired them (out of FL I believe) couldn't fix mine because it was potted. I purchased a used display from another CSR member from his lower station I think that he removed but it functioned the same as my existing one. I contacted Sea Ray and was told there is some sort of "brain" for this system. I traced back the ribbon harness to a controller box but, came up short on finding a replacement. I spoke with Sea Ray again via email & after some back & forth was told there is some sort of digital upgrade but at this point I think it was late in the boating season & I lost interest. I wouldn't mind replacing this system but, I do seem to remember the quote for parts being upwards of $2k, but may be mistaken. I'm going to see if I can find the old email correspondence.

OK Fellow SR members with inop Systems Monitor panels.

I have the panel that is from my lower helm. The upper monitor panel's board was burned when we had that runaway starter motor and a lot of wiring got burned up. I have three boards and I'll load photos of them. Now here's the catch--I honestly do not know if these are in working order. I believe the one that is shaped like a boat and has the LED lights on it is good. But again no guarantees. The rectangular board seems to be a connector of some sort that brings the electronic signals from around the boat and organizes them into a usable format. The square board with the red LED lights is for a panel that use to sit adjacent to the boat shaped panel.

Now, because these are soooooo rare, I'm not letting these go for free. Just kidding. If someone wants them and will send me a PM for my address and sends me a check for $10 to cover the postage I'll send them out to you.

As far as what these panels were replaced with, that's a whole 'nother story. I now am the proud owner of a pair of new, all digital Systems Monitor panel that has no LED lights. I don't have a picture of it but if someone wants one I'll go to the boat and take a photo. It came right from SR and is branded with the SR logo.

Here's the catch--the original sending units for the LED displays pictured are analog sending units. The new ones are all digital. Guess what--they don't make the analog sending units any more and they don't talk with the new digital Systems Monitor setup. So if you have to go to the new setup you have to replace all of your analog sending units with digital ones. I have no idea what the cost of that conversion is because the work was done by my mechanic and the cost was paid for by my insurance company.

BTW, people who tell you that these boards cannot be repaired because they're "potted" or "coated" have never tried to use MEK to remove the coating.

We used to fix these all the time when I was in the service. MEK is a great solution to dissolve just about anything.

These older (pre 2000) LED style boards are "conformal coated" and are easier to access the components for repair. BTW that resistor next to the fuse should be stepped up to a higher wattage resistor; That appears to be a failure point.... The 2000 and later LCD units are fully potted and near impossible to repair.

1997 "Boat" shaped LED monitors appear to be as rare as hen's teeth. I'm another individual with a broken unit that needs repair....

What does "coated" or "potted" mean? My mechanic just looked at mine. I have 13volts going in but nothing happening. My next question would be, if it's over $2K to replace it, is it worth it?

Conformal coating is usually a spray that envelopes the pc board to protect it from moisture.
Potting a board is effectively, entombing the pc board in an epoxy or similar substance also, to protect is from moisture.
Potting a board helps with vibration related damage as well.

If its conformal coated, its a bear but it can be removed.
If its potted, its usually a door stop.

If no one takes you up on your offer, I'd be happy to take a stab at fixing it for someone that could use it.
The boards are not complex at all.
The only question mark is the resistor that went 'en fuego' and I could get the value of that off of mine.
The exploded transistor will be the same as all the others.

Careful... you're going to be inundated in defective system monitors! Starting with my de-potted boat shape LED monitor.... de-potted because I painstakingly removed it by hand.

Hey Guys,
Reviving this old thread. I would really like to get this puppy up and running or replaced with an updated version if it doesn't break the bank. GFC, could you possibly get me a pic of what they updated your monitor to? Maybe I can get a model number or something & contact Sea Ray. Thanks for any help you can provide.
