Table Rock Lake

Best cruise is 2900 rpm at about 31 MPH. Burn is about 19 GPH at cruise. WOT will bring 54 MPH at 30 GPH. Fuel burn was a concern for me going from the 350 Mag in our 240 to the 496. But, as it turns out, we consitently use less fuel than we did in the 240. I wouldn't have anything but the 496 in our boat. I have driven the 6.2 and it is adequate at cruise but the hole shot sucks. The 8.1 makes the boat a sports car. I belive twin 350s are an option, but not worth the cash. We love our 270.

Tim...I am confused by your statement that you use less fuel than in your 240.

I had to run that 350 much harder to pull skiers and tubes. When pulling a skier with the 240 I would have to open the throttle to the stops for a few seconds to get them out of the water. I have never gotten the throttle past half on the 270 before the skier is up. Torque has its advantages. I should have added a caveat to that though, we don't do a lot of long range cruising and I almost never run the 496 at WOT. And the 270 only weighs 800 pounds more than our 240 did. My brother has a 290 SLX and it is at least 2,000 pounds heavier than our 270. Compared to the 270 the 290 is a bit sluggish.

That is just our experience. We have averaged 6.5 gallons per hour on the boat with the 496 over the 200 hours we have on it. We only put 127 hours on our 240 and used a little over 900 gallons, averaging about 7.1 gallons per hour on the boat. We have used both boats pretty much the same way, but I usually have more people on the 270. My wife and kids did ski/board more when we had the 240, so that could be a contributing factor.

Thanks Tim. Is your brother on Table Rock? What does he have for power in his 290?

Bought a Sea Doo 155 Wake at the boat show this past weekend. More time anchored and less time driving in circles! My kids are thrilled and so am I.

Tim...Congrats on the new toy...they are a blast!

I am ready to dewinterize and clean the boat up!

I could spend the rest of my life in bliss without ever seeing another snow flake. Anchors up, folks!!!

I'm ready to go! Welcome to the forum. Where do you keep your boat? Did you recently buy your boat? I know one similar to yours just sold

Jeff,
You're killing me. I will be down April 11th to change the oil and hopefully get the boat cleaned up. If not, I'll have to pay to have it done again.

Tim...were you floating down by the dam yesterday (5/31)? I circled a boat that looked like yours, but couldn't see the boat name.
