Table Rock Lake

Yep, that it did. We had given them a shot at least once each year. This year we were a bit surprised. Food was good (though we only had sandwiches) and our order was out in less than 30 mins and they were slammed. We had waited 2 hours once, and the kids were swimming in the pool and didn’t want to leave as we otherwise would have. Wouldn’t be our go-to, but friends were staying there and it was close to the Chateau - and we were pleasantly surprised.

Hello All, New to the site and new to Sea Ray. We have been boating on TRL for 20 years. Just bought this at Lake O Tuesday before the 4th. We will be bringing it to TRL when I can find a slip, hopefully by next season. I miss calm waters, spent 5 days at Lake O over the 4th, very nice people at the dock, but rough water.

Welcome aboard CSR! Congrats on your Sea Ray as well! What part of the lake are you looking for a slip? Lease or purchase? I’d be happy to keep my ear to the ground and let you know if I hear anything.

Thank You Cap'n Scuba Steve,
We love this boat. We have been at POK for years. However, I have called every marine on the lake and no one has a 42' slip available. With the limited amount of large slips on TRL, buying really is not an option.

Congrats on the new boat!

We stayed on the boat most of the week after the 4th. There seemed to be a fair amount of boat traffic all week. We didn’t anchor out on the 4th, but did go out cruising with a friend on his new(to him) Sea Ray. Here is last weekend by Chateau....awesome week.

We were down for a long weekend last week. The lake was rough. A ton of boats for a non-holiday weekend. The thing I have been seeing more this year, by 10 fold over previous years, are 40'+ cruisers running on plane throwing off big a$$ wakes.

TRL is the next Lake O, imo... when I first went there 25 years ago, there wasn’t many large boats, and reasonable traffic on the weekend, and basically no traffic during the week

Yeah, when I was growing up on the lake you didn’t have to search far for a quiet cove to ski in. I find myself slowing down more for surf boat wake than I do for big cruiser wake. The big, big boats on the lake usually don’t run that fast, but I have seen the occasional 390 all ahead flank and throwing a big wake.

I don’t think TRL will reach LOTO level because we don’t have all the bars on the lake as LOTO does. Big slips are hard to come by, so unless marinas expand or new ones are added, it will be tough to get that congested with huge boats.

The pandemic has had a huge impact on boat traffic this year IMO. I drive by the boat dealers around the area and their lots are empty! They can’t keep boats on their lots, new or used. It would be a great year to be selling boats! Many that I talk to aren’t taking their usual vacations and are instead putting that money into boating.

LOTO is crazy, everyone has a 40+ foot boat and everyone runs wide open. I can't wait to get to calmer waters. I am not big on going fast, I like to burn fuel in a gen in a cove anchored all weekend, not running up and down the lake. The core restricts the size and number of slips on the lake. So the number and size will always be limited. That will keep the numbers and sizes down.

I sure hope so, I have been going to LOTO for over 40 years, back then, LOTO didn’t have a ton of bars/restaurants on the water. Not many big boats either.

your right that the core will help with limiting docks. At LOTO, there seems to be a dock every 75’

"Cheap" gas doesn't help either. Let's see how many of these new boaters are running around all day on $4.00 gas. Or their first major breakdown. I have seen more random acts of stupidity and lack of general boating knowledge this year than the last 3 combined.

That's for sure. My admiral used to get on me about getting frustrated (and sometimes yelling) at people doing things wrong (or stupid), and this year she's joined in! I'd like to say I've rubbed off on her, but it's probably due to how bad people are this year. When you've navigated a guided-missile destroyer multiple times through the Strait of Malacca (one of the busiest and tightest shipping lanes in the world) people doing stupid things gets really aggravating. Maybe I'm just old and salty!

Tim....I can remember paying 4.95 for fuel. I think this year has been the cheapest fuel(at least so far this year) since 2006, when we bought our 1st boat.

Jeff,
We bought our first boat in 2004. Fuel prices were in the low 2s. If I remember correctly, it was usually about $.50 higher than street prices. Then Katrina hit.

In 2008, when we got our current boat I remember paying well over $4.00. One day a buddy of mine said he wanted to pick up the fuel tab at State Park. I didn't say anything. I think gas was about $4.50. I knew I needed close to 90 gallons, I was actually concerned about running out on the way over. I could only smile watching the look on his face as the pump inched up to $400. I gave my credit card to the dock hand before my buddy could. He didn't say anything, but the look of relief on his face was worth it. He is a good friend and knows I won't take his money. So every time he is down with his family he hides a hundo somewhere in our condo before he leaves.

Steve...that sounds interesting!
