Anyone know the back story with the selling of hotel rooms in the Island House?.. I searched the local newspapers and came up with nothing.

I usually stay there when working on the boat in the winter but last couple of years it got really run down so have been staying somewhere else. Looking at it this winter it looked closed... paint peeling off. Now I see they are selling rooms. If you know the place the rooms are not that cool...very small, drafty and something is usually broken. My last stay I asked for a folding chair so I had some place to sit.

Wow, you really like bringing up some great history and memories for me. First it was the PIB ship now this. Here is what I remember about the island house. Many years ago it was pristine and very popular. As you said the rooms were not very big but very well maintained. It had a nice restaurant and good food. Along about the 70's or early eighties it began to go downhill and was purchased by a heavy hitter from Cleveland as the story goes. He brought it back and once again it flourished. Then but not sure which owner started selling rooms off which never took hold as I was told by the locals. Over the next decade it changed hands at least once or maybe twice. It then closed again and to my knowledge it opened for brief stints but never regained its momentum and eventually closing and this is what you see now. Very sad to me as this was a great piece of history and at times beautiful. I may be off on some of my years but writing this has brought back some wonderful memories and friends when we would go there. Thanks for that. Hope that helps.
