My wife and daughter are flying into Miami in early December and going to drive to the Keys.
Does anyone have any good places to stay? (Hotel type)
Maybe some can't miss destinations?

Greg we spent a week in Key West and stayed at a home that had an addition built behind the house that had ~6 rooms on 2 levels. All the rooms faced balconies that overlooked the pool. Nothing fancy but we enjoyed it. The gal who runs it was a hoot and had a free bar every night. If you are interested I'll see if I can dig up the name.

Places to see--
Duval Street
The street that is adjacent to the downtown marina (good restaurants)
We took an evening dinner cruise on a ~130' sailboat that had a free bar
and snacks. It's in the downtown marina.

There are a ton of good restaurants and fun bars to carouse through on m Duval street.

If they have the time as they go by Key Largo they can stop at John Pennekamp State park and go out on the glass bottom boat and snorkle. They have a great shallow reef there. They provide everything you need. Fun deal.

Hey wy, are they going to stay in key west?? Southwinds is on the south end, but very reasonably priced, clean and nice pool, got a super cute tiny bar on the premises called the tipsy rooster….blue marlin is also great, same area

Marathon has alot of great places to stay also

Great info, thank you everyone.
Unfortunately, my daughter can't go out in the ocean, it's automatic sea sick. She's tried several times, lol, and she ends up puking the whole trip, poor thing.
They don't have accommodations planned yet, so this info should help, plus things to see.

Right before Covid hit in Feb 2020 we stayed at the Margaritaville resort, now called opal key resort. Very nice. Right off Mallory square where they do the sunset festival. They have a balcony bar where you can grab a drink and watch the sunset.

Hit up the worlds smallest bar. Also Virgilios martini bar. We did a bike ride around town which was fun.

faro blanco in marathon is nice - i think the hotel is a hilton - there is theater of the sea in islamorada as well as the turtle hospital in marathon for attractions

Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada is pretty hard to beat, unless you plan to drive all the way to MM 0. There a few nice hotels down there too.

Are they going to drive all the way to Key west of just looking for a night or two in the Keys in general.

If not going to "Key West" and looking towards the middle I recommend these.
Hawks Cay 'The nicest"
Post Card Inn

All the places mentioned above are nice, never stayed at the Cheeca but would love to someday:) Another nice one in Key West is La Concha, right on duval, great location to walk anywhere.

I'm not sure what their plans are. As far as I know they just started planning it.

Postcard Inn at Islamorada (Holiday Isle for us old timers). Theater of the Sea right by it. Stop and feed some tarpons at Robbie's.
You Tube is your friend for post Irma info.

Some great info, much appreciated.
I don't think there's any better info than right here at CSR.
I gave both of them the link to this thread so they can see what you guys are suggesting.

Sounds like their thinking of staying between Key Largo and Islamorada.
But nothing is set 100% yet.

The Lorelei and Hog Heaven are great restaurants, good drinks and great food, on the water, beautiful place for a sunset at the Lorelei…And the Frotharita is amazing! A margarita that’s half frozen, half rocks….simply delicious! Key lime colada is yummy too:)
