The "virus" What are your thoughts

When are African Americans and others going to stop yelling racism at everything... You see it with quite a few politicians today... namely the squad. There will always be someone out there some where.... but why does it have to be a victim cry everyday?

Another example with the head of virus vaccine.... https://video.foxnews.com/v/6150431706001

i do not agree with every move of president trump but regarding WHO he in my opinion has a point .

who followed or at least accepted chinas cover up / downplay on this and so failed to inform quickly about the severity of this pandemic .

It didn’t matter whether a country pursued a severe incarceration-in-place policy like Israel, or went about business as usual like Sweden, coronavirus followed precisely the same pattern. In the words of columnist Medina Melvin of Townhall, “coronavirus peaked and subsided in the exact same way. In the exact, same, way.”

since the virus spreads via human to human contact common sense dictates isolating from each other WILL have an effect .

i,m prerty sure some goverments also downplay the death numbers in order not to scare their population and to show they "have it under control" with their strategy ...

whatever the best strategy is - i,m with USA being pretty angry on china for their gift to the world where so many suffer loosing their jobs , so many suffer being on ICU and so many die around the world .

its worse than a major military conflict and we all do not have a date when this ends .

Unlike some of our government officials that "Up Play" the death numbers for maximum effect. If you fall out of a tree and break your neck but you test positive for Covid then you died from Covid.

So my wife and I have been really trying to self isolate. Mostly because my mother who is 80 and has mild COPD lives nearby and we really don't want to take any risk with her. We are not seeing her much and we are super careful with the 6ft rule, sanitizer etc. and we don't even sit inside.

Even though everything is closed basically, the one place we periodically have to go is our local grocery store. They have really good distancing rules, employees walk the store and remind people all the time if they get close, they don't allow more than a set number in the store at once, all touch surfaces on carts and baskets are wiped down with sanitizer before they are put back in the store, all the cashes have plexiglass screens, belts and cashes are wiped down with sanitized multiple times an hour, etc. Felt to me about as safe as anywhere.

And then this comes out related to the store we shop at:

Three Metro employees at the Upper Middle Rd location in Oakville tested positive for COVID-19 in a span of a week.
Employee 1: Tested positive on Apr 24. Their last day of work was Apr 22.
Employee 2: Tested positive on Apr 25. Their last day of work was Apr 23.
Employee 3: Tested positive on Apr 30. Their last day of work was Apr 26.

There were 52,068 confirmed and presumptive cases in Canada as of Thursday (Apr 30). Ontario has seen 16,187 confirmed cases. 10,205 have been resolved. 1,082 have died.

While not mandated by a governing body, Metro publishes all positive in-store COVID-19 cases in Ontario and Quebec on its corporate website.

“In each case of a positive test, the store was deep cleaned to ensure the health and safety of employees and customers,” said Stephanie Bonk, Metro Communications Manager.

Bonk added that Metro will soon be introducing a COVID-19 screening program for all of its in-store employees. Upon arrival, employees will undergo a series of tests implemented in partnership with Quebec-based medical services company, Biron.

Metro employees were also notified this week that on top of the face shields already supplied, all employees will be given reusable face masks, according to the company.

Metro says is also in the process of installing plexiglass behind each cash station to compliment the plexiglass already installed directly between the cashiers and customers.

Creek,
Are you looking to determine if you came into direct contact with one of the infected employees? Are you expected to take any action or is it just information for you?

No real way to find out. In many ways it is no different than not knowing whether an infected person was at the gas pumps just before me. Just a bit of an eye opener that it is still around us and we need to be diligent. And if for some reason my wife or I start to see any symptoms, we won't wait to head to get tested.

The CDC reports over 32,000 excess deaths in 2020 so far up to a couple of weeks ago, see https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm. That 32K is over and above the number of already-recorded COVID deaths and are largely clustered starting in March and since. The vast majority are assumed to be undiagnosed COVID, the remainder probably mostly indirectly COVID-related as there is no other logical explanation, at least so far. So, while there are sure to be individual cases of erroneous reporting (in both directions) reported anecdottaly, ultimately the record of the pandemic death numbers is going to be driven by statistics like these, as all previous epidemics/pandemics have.
