This has been a brutal start to 2019, fellas

Eric, thanks for that link. I've noticed our weather here in SE Washington state has been cooling off over the last several years.

We live in a desert area and used to have about 2-3 weeks of 100* plus temps every summer. This past few years those high temps have only happened about a week or so.

Did you happen to send that link to Al Gore?

You’re confusing weather with climate.

Me too. I failed to read the article before my original post. Utter fail on my part.

Sorry.

So first the snow, accumulating, compacting, until the ice begins to flow. Which would you guys prefer, warming or cooling?

Since you ask: for me, warming. The dire predictions of climate-change disasters have not materialized. Yet, people tend to believe the next one dire warning, not remembering they never come to pass.

The warming we've experienced has been benign IMO.

Hmmm ok. How about the glaciers melting at the most rapid pace in decades and even centuries? Greenland's glaciers have been melting so fast that they has now exposed huge sand deposits. And then there's the Artic and Antarctica ice loss..........

It's challenging to think about warming especially here in Ohio this winter where we've had bone chilling freezing and sub freezing temps - but other parts of the world are having exceptionally high temps.

Man Made Global Warming Is Bullsh!t, Bullsh!t...

The earth has been changing back and forth for millions of years, The sun flares have been varying for millions of years. All this scaremongering is based on computer models, put opinions in the computer get opinions out. Then who can forget the scandals that have involved some of the biggest players in the academic and scientific world trying to prop this up.

Most of the Midwest was once under glaciers, was that global warming when they disappeared? It sure was, natural global warming, the kind man cannot affect. It is the arrogance of mankind to think he is just that important that he can alter this planet in a significant way.

MM

Cpt TJ, yes glaciers have been melting since ~1850. Long before CO2 could have had any impact. Also some glaciers are growing.

And as you can see from the graphs below, 1. Arctic ice is about average, and 2. Midwest winters are getting colder.

Not items reported on very widely.

Don't confuse the issue with facts. Some folks have their minds made up.

There are some interesting studies of historic heating and precipitation derived from the discovery of ancient trees that have been preserved at the bottom of Lakes. Looking at the width of growth rings allows for the extrapolation of temperature and rain. Wish I had a link. The information validates what others have been saying about variation being a normal climate phenomenum. Also, Russian scientists have become rather supported in their theories about sunspot activity having lots to do with wild climate changes, although those studies are mostly correlational and not causal. Still, something to consider.

Paleoclimatology has debunked the man influenced global warming but most certainly has demonstrated the trending cycle of climate change. It makes me crazy when politicians use scientific evidence to advance their agenda, line their pockets and exercise power and control over us. I flipping hate big government!!!

So you guys think climate change is one big liberal conspiracy? Got it. Only in the US has it been so politicized.

Climate change denial is big business in the US. The real conspiracy are the billions poured into bogus research and “science” by the fossil fuel industry to advance false rhetoric despite the actual scientific evidence on the matter. Looks like it’s working for them as evidenced in this thread

Also arguing with people on the internet (especially in this forum) is stupid and pointless. So good day.

I think it's interesting how climate scientists interact. There are some who advocate isolating those who disagree with them, and others who say here is the data, how it was collected and then present their theories about what it means. Science is an invitation to inquiry and a process, and scientists disagree frequently until the facts are so well established that consensus develops as studies are replicated. Much of the climate data has been inconsistently developed and the inconsistencies then hidden from public scrutiny. That is not science.

Climate change is real and happens continually. I'm not denying the globe has warmed since the 1850's. Just debating the science of what's causing it. Which by the way, is the scientific method. Claiming consensus is not.

To look at the charts above that show winters cooler in the midwest, and normal ice in the arctic and call it climate change denial -- well, that is very interesting. To me it's denial to ignore such scientific findings. Better, IMO, to discuss and debate the findings, and the possible causes.

Of course, "time will tell us who is trying to sell us".

;)

The scientific method is a quaint idea for some of our modern day "scientists".

I’m not sure anyone said it was a liberal conspiracy. I grouped all politicians together as immoral, unethical bottom feeding turds. That being said, I completely embrace the theories of climate change. It’s far too easy to blame the fossil fuel industry especially when the paleoclimatologists have found that most historical extreme changes have coincided with volcanic eruptions specifically around the pacific rim.

While I am sure that fossil fuel use has had a measurable affect on warming it would be a drop in the bucket to what normal cyclical warming is. All attacking the fossil fuel industry does is create feel good legislative policies that accomplish nothing except cost us even more money. The overall affect would be next to nothing if regulated to non-existence. A viable technology has not been found as yet to replace fossil fuels. When it does I have little doubt we will all transition away from fossil fuels but not to “save the planet”.
