That really sucks. Looks like the current was significant but the captain clearly got himself into something they were unprepared for. That looks like a 60 Sundance to me.

Our boat insurance has a clause in it that you are not covered if you do not have a plotted course. It is I assume to keep people from winging a course in an area they know or think they know. It is a pain some times but it makes one feel in control. We hit an underwater pile that was not marked. We had plotted a course between two points that was clear. Insurance had no questions once they got our report on the incident. Next morning when we left at low tied you could se the pile. Looks like he was not sure where the opening was in the bridge.
