I know that a lot of us A types work all year and rarely use all your vacation. I'm off till Jan 1. I'll be trolling CSR more than usual as I fill my time with house decorating, knife making and honey do's. We'll take a week to run south to NC to see the kids too.

How many of you working stiffs are burning off your time too?

I know many are retired or financially independent so what fills your time when not on the boat?

I burn most all of my vacation in the summer so I can use the boat, saving one week for a February Island vacation. This February we are going to Turks and Caicos Island... can't wait!

For the other weekends in the fall and winter... RZR riding, visiting with my boating friends, and some much needed home maintenance projects!

We take vacations a couple times a year so my vacation doesn't get built up very much.

What's a vacation? Even when I do take off I'm on the phone putting out fires.

The admiral always complains that I'm never on vacation due to the constant e-mail interruptions. She doesn't realize that if I don't keep up then I'll have three times more work when I get back from vacation.

I no longer own my own business but I wish everyone had a chance to see the complexity involved. Having employees is like having a second family.

Glad to be at corporate at this point in life.

So are you going to make me that knife whilst your off???

Its odd owning the business, has been very very tough the last 2 1/2 years, (been in business now 19 years). But I am lucky to have a great team of people that can run the business pretty well with me absent.

Which has bee a blessing the last 2 years, with ageing parents, wife struggling etc etc.

However it is strange, I feel guilty taking time off, and even my young storeman constantly has a go at me.....Why do you bother taking time off, you only end up coming in anyway!

Jokingly a month ago, i put a leave form on my Secretary's desk, for 12 months leave for myself.............She said NO

I mostly work from a home office which allows me to have free time to surf the web. As long as I have an internet connection I can get work done and I just completed a Ubiquiti Bullet router antenna set up today so I can work better from the boat.

Having said that, it's hard for me to know when to stop working...

Ian, can 200 year old whale bone be shipped into your country? If so check this boy out.

Not finished yet. Still need to install stainless steel mosaic pins and polish.

1095 carbon / 15N20 folded Damascus,

BTW the cheesy sheath is for transport back from my artisan in Alaska who carved the handles. We'll make a fitting sheath for it.

Or stainless steel with stag antler ready to ship.

Nice job... good looking knife!

My wife and I own and run a small business that is 142 yrs old, I'm the seventh owner. So we live together, work together and I order to vacation together we just close the business down three weeks a year. A week in July we take a trip on Lake Michigan somewhere, Christmas is spent in Cape Coral area where I use a friends house and boat, and a week in January spent at a all inclusive in Mexico. Vacations usually involve water in some way. Hopefully soon to be financially secure enough to buy retire and buy a house and boat in Florida to spend winters.

My wife and I also own a small business , we're together 24/7 , I've been running it 25 years now , she joined my team 10 years ago and has been my best employee ever, the first wife was horrible working with her , but the new wife and I vacation twice a year shutting it down and I take NO emails or calls at all. Customers do understand that you need a break, and after 10 years of 24/7 with her , she still make me horny !!!

I've been home all week, don't think I can take much more. Maybe I can go over to the office and just sit in the break room for a minute to get my fix. Way to many posts on CSR this week for me.
