Decided I needed to replace impeller on my 1990 sundancer with an Alpha 1 drive.
I originally dropped just the lower part of the drive found a melted impeller housing, replaced entire thing including base.
now trying to reassemble ...gave up on trying to slide lower half back onto upper just could not get it to slide together. I pulled upper half, was able to assemble the upper and lower back together, I had shifter in full forward, and the shoe on the drive facing forward, but when I slide it together the props spinning free, what am I missing?
side note/ question..when I attempted to put the lower half back onto upper half I noticed a splined tube dangling with a washer and cotter pin, I assumed this was a shift tube? Maybe I'm not getting this in proper placement?
Tired and frustrated, all help greatly appreciated!

I will try tomorrow, I believe that what I'm seeing is the intermediate shaft, it should go over lower housing shift shaft?
not had any lunch uploading pics here.

That tube is the shift shaft from the upper half that fits the lower shift shaft splines. Did you have the drive in forward with the shift shaft rotated fully clockwise? Sounds like drive isn't in forward fully.

take a vise grips and gently clamp the prop shaft make sure the drive is in foward and turn the shaft as you push the drive into place. Don't forget the little oil seal!

Thanks for the replies,I used a bungee cord from the prop to the top of the leg to hold pressure against it, worked like a charm,
I clearly didnt look close enough at the tube to realize it was the shift shaft.
Slid it together no problem.
