trucks what old is new again

I suggest you get your facts straight. I have indeed not only driven the F150 3.5 and 2.7 EB, but also the 3.5 EB in the Expedition EL.
In all three vehicles I drove from Chicago to Melbourne Fl. 2200 miles round trip. Had each for 2-week periods.

In addition, a close friend is a tech at a Ford dealer. His direct hands on experience is more validating than my driving experience. He does not recommend any VVT engine, nor direct injection, and certainly not either of the EB engines.

The only recent engine he would purchase if he had to is the 5.0, which has a well written history of cylinder distortion.

Those are the facts.
The opinions of your mechanic friend are the facts? I know a lot of guys that swear by the eco boost engine. Myself included. And some of them have over 200,000 trouble free miles.

No issues with ecoboost's here!

Had a '14 F150 with the 3.5 and then a '16 with the 2.7, put a just under a combined 100k miles on them in 3 years and no issues. Plenty of power, decent fuel economy.

Went with a '19 Ram this time last year - not one issue. Most new trucks are problem free - no matter the brand! That said, every brand has it's quirks.

Mechanically I'm pretty sure all the major truck builders got that covered but I'm also sure the major truck build don't give a damn how long their trucks bodies last or they wouldn't be building them the way they do. With that said no one in the industry has the balls to rack them over the coals about it. GM,Ford, Dodge all suck when you figure what you pay for a new truck and in less then ten years in my neck of the woods they become rot boxes.

No I meant the facts are that I’ve driven several ecoboost engines on different vehicles.
My buddies opinion is based on 15 years as a Ford and diesel tech at the dealer.

There is an interesting video on YouTube where they interviewed the techs at a Ford dealer asking this question around which engine they prefer if they would choose, all selected the 5.0 over the EB.

The only other fact I would point to is that it wasn’t until Ford came out w the 2nd gen 5.4 3valve (VVT) engine that the problems arised. Many of their VVT engines suffer from cam phaser, oil pump, chain guides, etc failures. This is well documented not opinion.

Pushrod engines are not plagued w this syndrome.

Please elaborate what you mean by “but I'm also sure the major truck build don't give a damn how long their trucks bodies last or they wouldn't be building them the way they do.” Again, please let this group know how “they” build trucks today.

Do you have any idea what the process is to assemble and paint trucks these days? The paint process is far superior than it was back in the day.

Elaboration Your right I don't know how today's trucks are built but what I do know is spray foam full of water isn't a step in the right direction.

Are you referring to spray spray foam in rocker panels? I haven’t heard of any issues with water. Are you thinking structural foam in trucks is a bad thing?
