Ultrasonic fuel senders convert to Royce or similar, size needed?

Posted this in the 330/350 thread, but thought more boats from around my year might use similar tanks. For those of you that have replaced yourself or Sea Ray replaced (Sea Ray customer service basically told me to pound sand!) your Ultrasonic Fuel Senders with the Royce or similar, do you know what size Sender each tank took? In the 330DA parts manual it lists the tanks as......STB Ultsonc 21" and PRT Ultsonc 22". I know most senders like the Royce or similar say to subtract an inch from you tank measurements.

This will not answer your question but I had my dealer replace my senders with Royce and they worked much better. The originals were very erratic.

The Royce senders are not perfect if you are stuck with E-10 gas. I've had to replace two floats now - one was three years old and it was the original black float design, the other was only three weeks old and was the "new, improved" blue float design. Royce was very good about sending replacements for free when I called them, but the guy I talked to admitted they are not exactly sure why the floats fail.

Also be sure to measure both your tanks if you have two. The 320DA tanks are not the same dimensions although they have the same capacity.

I wasn't going to bring that up, but I too have had to replace my float twice (2nd will be in a few weeks). I changed the original black float out in early june with the new blue float, which sank this past weekend and stopped working again. I was back in touch with Royce yesterday, and Kent has left but Jim said they are aware of the issue with the blue float material as well. A new hollow plastic float is in production and he is going to send them to me free of charge for my two sensors as soon as they arrive in about 2 weeks. When working, their products are great, and customer service has been SUPERB. Strange thing is my port tank sensor has worked flawlessly, its the starboard that keeps dying!

That is good to know that they have a new design coming, I will have to give them a call.

Both of my failures have been on the port side, which is a real b*tch on the 320 (had to cut a access hole through the deck to just to get the original sender out).

Thanks for the feedback. I'll measure the tanks and then call Royce back, because I was told orders are taking 2-3 weeks.

The tanks on the 2007 310 and 2008 330 are suppose to be the same. Starboard is 21' 6" high and port is 22' 6" high. I ordered a 21" and 22" for my 310 and they said two weeks before I'll get them.

Im assuming the 2-3 weeks... is the same 2-3 weeks that I was told for replacement floats. Guess the hollow floats are still being manufactured / shipped, and Royce doesn't want to ship out any more senders with the black or blue floats that go bad randomly thanks to E-10. I would still love to be able to explain why my port sender is going strong with the original float, while the starboard original and replacement floats have gone belly up.

Sure, it would be great for there to have been no float issue, but I'm just glad to be working with a company that is standing by their product and is very accessible from a customer support perspective. That is getting harder and harder to come by!

When you're tired of messing around with older "float" technology guys, check these out...

I installed about 3yrs ago and been flawless! No - I don't have any connection with the product other than being so impressed with the ease of installation, flawless performance, and seemingly long trouble free lifespan. What more could one ask?

Interested to know more, but I'm surprised. I thought that SeaRay had gone down the ultrasonic sensor route at some point and bailed on that approach because it didn't work well. My waste sensor doesn't seem to register except when on Empty.... Wonder if this would be a good solution to try. I certainly don't want to be opening the holding tank for multiple fixes. Gasoline vapors are strong enough!! :)

The SSI Sensors are what's in the boat now. The Starboard Sensor hasn't worked since I purchased the boat (2 years) and the Port is starting to become very erratic. So based on my issues, as well as many others on this site, I've determined it's just best to replace them with the Royce Sensors. MancaveII, thanks for the information about your tanks. I'm going to measure my tanks this weekend and will post if my actual measurements are what you have provided.

Hmmm.. I installed the SSI's in my 370 right after jimmy buoy did and they worked perfect for me too. Well, and still are as I saw her this past weekend.

Too funny...my waste says Full don't flush and Empty - I pulled up the three sensors, but they won't actually come completely out of the holes they are mounted in. I'm afraid to force them out until I can see what is catching. I have a feeling I will replace them with a different technology. I know this is crazy talk, but I would actually like my gauges to work :) Interestingly enough, my fresh water tank is perfect, reads correctly and works everytime and it's the least of my worries :)

I have only ever seen mine say empty. I know it was full at one point when I bought the boat because I didn't know I had the grey water system which captured all the water from the sinks/shower etc. I had never seen that before and it never came up on the survey. Drained the stale water from the fresh tank on day 1 and overstuffed the holding tank. Maybe I just haven't let it get back to that "full" mark. I do pump out kind of regularly, and am always worried about overstuffing the tank again.

My fresh water tank sensor/gauge works great.

My Waste tank sometimes reads 1/2 full, but in most cases works just like MancaveII's, shows empty and then Full don't flush. We get a pump out every month regardless, so we only had the Full Don't Flush one time since we've had the boat. That is a pretty novel idea that your gauges should work. Sadly it seems Sea Ray is not concerned with the issues they've had with these sensors, since customer service was no help when I called.

I installed an SSI sensor on my holding tank after trying to fix the float switch time multiple times and trying two different tank side sensors. The tank side types didn't work because the tank material was too thick. The SSI (bought as part of the US Marine kit with a Wema gauge) works perfectly.

The problem other than my SSI Starboard Sensor not working is if you try to order a replacement they and US Marine will only sell in quantities of 10 (at least that's what I've been told). So if someone knows of a dealer where I might be able to purchase just the Starboard, then maybe I'd try to just replace it and hope it lasts.
