How many hours are on the boat what is the condition?

Also I will be the first to say (and not the last) you are taking a big risk on not having a survey done. As for extended warranties, they are a gamble. We have heard from those who have saved a fortune by having an extended warranty. Others who have had a nightmare getting things covered. I have no doubt countless others have never gotten back their money out of it. I think $2100 is a bit steep for a single engine boat but just my opinion. The only time I have heard reasonable extended warranty prices are when these boats are sold new.

No offense but I am trying to understand why you would be considering $2100 for an extended warranty but have decided not to spend about $260 on a survey? If there are hull problems or other issues that are not easily seen you could be setting yourself for potentially thousands of dollars of repairs.

160 hrs ,it is risky i know. i just dont have time to go down and look at it. if i get the survey it will cost about 550. they told me there is nothing defective at all with boat, they have gone over the whole thing. from the pics it looks good and they have sent a few more at my request. im thinking i get 2 years coverage on the warranty that may protect me from trouble later ?? here it ishttp://www.marinemax.com/Page.aspx/diid/6205238/list/PreownedBoat/pageId/85/view/Details/2006-Sea-Ray-260-SUNDANCER.aspx

Ok, around here a survey is $100/ft (not including engines). If it only has 160 hours I would pass on the warranty, just my opinion. I am sure someone here will comment that actually has had that warranty but I seem to recally hearing more than once where certain repairs have not been covered for one reason or another.

Hello I would only go for a warranty from the engine manufacture I have heard way to much about trying to get things covered by the sea ray warranties I have a 4 year extended warranty on my engines transmission and DTS systems those to me are going to be the most expensive the rest I would pass on if the boat only has less then 200 hours on it I bought mine as a left over an was able to get the Mercury warranty Good luck with the boat

I bought a 06 260 with 40 hours on it. We didn't do a survey, however I wanted the extended warranty and the dealer included it in the sale. I had one issue during the warranty period, which i'm sure didn't cover the value of the cost of the warranty. I am pro warranty on boats, especially a "mfg" warranty. I was prepared for a battle to have them cover the claim, but has no issue. Good luck with the boat.

No offense, but this statement scares me a little. Is the boat such a long distance away? Seems to me that a trip to the boat & a $550 survey would cost less than the $2100 waranty, and it could save you more in the long run. If you don't have the time to go look at it, when will you have time to use it?

Have you driven the boat? A sea trial would at least give you some proof that all the systems are functioning properly. Most dealers will do a pre purchase sea trial and an on water orientation at delivery. The warranty seems a little steep if it only covers the motor. I got an extended warranty which covers the motor, trailer, components, and hardware for $1200 for 3 years which when combined with my factory warranty provides me 5 years of coverage. All of my claims so far have been with the factory warranty.

I would ask to see the service records....not that many hours if the proper service was done during break in. You should always drive a boat before you buy it. I have to admit I did not drive my 270 but it was real clean and had all the service records. I would probably not risk that again, Mike.

If MM is guaranteeing all systems work, I wouldn't sweat it. Skip the warranty, and the plane ride. Hire a decent local surveyer, to at least check hull moisture and give it a good visual.
