With the recent price cut, it has become more interesting. But we have 2 boats, both with recent Mercs. It would be logical to set up both of them.

My question is....does anybody know if two different installations can be set up on the same smartphone? Will the app recognize each engine as a separate entity?

Second question - can the app be downloaded into the 5" Simrad so that it would be on the dashboard unit and a smartphone would not be needed?

I have one on my boat. You have to set up and log in to a profile before use, so I assume that you could use the app for multiple boats (just not at the same time).

I have twin 8.1S horizons on my 2001 sundancer. Is this all I would need? I thought there’s also a need for additional wires and so forth.

I'm looking at it for 2 outboard engines that are equipped with the wifi bluetooth connections already installed. Thus the system is wireless. For your engines you would need to check with Mercury to see compatibility and whether any extra parts are needed.

As gypsumjim said, I would check with mercury. My engine is a 2003, it was the smartcraft ready version so the VV was plug and play with an additional terminator end that goes on the harness in place of the dust cap. Mercury rolled out the smartcraft kit from 2001 to 2004, they would be able to tell you if yours is smartcraft with the serial number.

If you scroll back to September, there are some photos of the connector. It’s in a thread called vessel view retrofit

Hope this helps. Yes your 2001 will work. I have the same set up.
